I live in a small area and the closest moms group is 50 miles away. I asked my pastor if he knew of any in this area and he said no, but then suggested starting one through our church. I really would like to, but how do I go about it? What kind of activities, how often, and what time of week? It will be through my church, no drinking even on mom's outtings. I want to do something that get's moms and kids involved, but also gives each mom and child time apart. For instance, part of the meeting be activities with mom's and children, the other part have the kids go to the nursery with a nursery worker and the moms talk and have a Bible study. Any positive input would be greatly appreciated. Just tell me what your mom's group does, or what you'd like to do if you were in a mom's group. I'd also like to plan a once a month mom's night out.

Good for you! I once started a MOMS Club, Intl. where I live, but what you want is MOPS... MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is for churches and such, and sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

Start by going here:
http://www.mops.org/

There's a whole page on starting a group:
http://www.mops.org/page.php?pageid=86&srctype=menu

What you do, and how often, will likely depend on the interest of those who join.

Best of luck!

I am the owner of a moms group and it really is not that difficult. The moms in my group are not all locals though - we are spread out all over the US. Just create your group on YahooGroups and where you write about the group explain that you are looking to add members to your group that are moms like you that have the same interests and name a few. If you are wanting them all to be from the same state you reside in, state that as well. It may take a lil time - but eventually it will build. I also meet some moms on message boards. We became friends and I would then invite them to the group. :) HTH & Good Luck!!

I'm not sure about your church, but if we wanted to do something like that in our's we have a certain time we could stand up and make an announcement to the congregation, or have the church secretary print an announcement in the church bulletin.
