I smoked weed back in winter 2005 like a total of 4-6 times, and I read that cannabis increases mental illness and schizophrenia, I feel I'm more paranoid about stuff now, could I be crazy/schizo and not even realize it?

Not from the weed.

Smoking 4-6 times will not cause mental illness. Long term use of marijuana could however. You probably only feel paranoid because you read an article about it. Or, you really could have a mental illness. But, if you do have one, I can guarantee its not from smoking 4-6 times in 2005. Good luck.

Very unlikely. I had smoked for years(thanks to growing up I no longer do)but the only effect it ever had on me was being high and being stupid at times. It did, however cause me to make some bad choices in life, some of which are regretful and others that are not. It does effect different people in different ways, but I have never heard of anyone becoming mentally imbalanced because of it. All my friends are fine as well so the chances are unlikely. Don't believe everything you read and only half of what you see and none of what you hear. You must remember these so called experts in the field that have done tests and surveys, chances are not ONE of them has ever experienced it for themselves to base any of their findings to confirm their findings on personal experience. So on that note IF by chance you have some mental illness it is more likely to have stemmed from genes or some other area in your life and has nothing to do with you smoking weed.

No, smoking weed 4-6 times in 2005 will not cause schizophrenia or paranoia years later. If you are mentally ill then it is for other reasons genetics, stress, trauma etc.

Dude there is nothing wrong with you, its all in your head, or maybe not but it has absolutely nothing to do with weed. I have been smoking weed just about every night for the past 6 months, and the only thing its done is what my antidepressants couldn't. It doesn't do anything else, it is completely harmless especially when you consider how little you've smoked.

All thats happened here is you've let the paranoid propaganda of "Reefer Madness" get to you, don't worry about it, just have another bowl and chill out...

Yeah I'm WICKED high right now... :)

Cannabis does NOT increase mental illness and schizophrenia. It does have some negative side effects, but if you have schizophrenia or mental illness it isn't from smoking marijuana - its only bad luck. People who have schizophrenia should NEVER smoke pot - it can make it worse (temporarily) for them. If you are truly concerned about your mental health, see a doctor and don't get your diagnoses on Yahoo! Answers - it isn't reliable for that.

You will not be affected and get a mental illness from a few times of smoking. The studies I have read are from years and years of long term smoking.

Ps.. the paranoia is from the weed.. put it down

Some studies have found a possible link between Marijuana and schizophrenia but they think it could bring out schizophrenia in people who have it already. Not make people schizophrenic. If you have a family history maybe you should be slightly worried but I wouldn't be. About a third of the population has smoked marijuana at one point and a third of everyone is not insane. Don't worry about it.

apparently there is some sort of link between marijuana use and mental illness. now the only thing is that its not proven that the marijuana use causes the mental illness. It is very possible that it is actually the other way around. (That people predisposed to mental illness, are also predisposed to drug use.) But from all of the research i have done through the years, i have found no concrete evidence that marijuana has ANY permanent negative long term effects.

If you are that concerned I would recommend you see a doctor. Because just from your question alone and the fact that you only smoked it a handful of times... How many years ago??? If i had to guess I think that maybe you already have some other issues going on. Seek help buddy and good luck!

That's not a result from any study I've seen. Habitual users do show some degradation of mental abilities but 4-6 times? Forget about it.
