I'm in physiotherapy for patella dislocation due to patella alta. I'm also working on my really tight hamstrings.
The physiotherapist has given me a hamstring exercise to do at home, so I can stretch them.
However, I am finding it so painful that I cry. Should I stop?

Yes. Excessive pain indicates you may be doing more harm than good. Do not continue the exercise until you review it with your therapist.

Best wishes and good luck.

Talk to you physio people - explain that it hurts and ask if you are doing it right. Maybe you are stretching a little too far, maybe the muscles need to be relaxed first.

Get you physio to show you again exactly how to do the exercises.

Both are painful areas to work on and you probably need to take it a little easier - I've found slow and easy usually does the trick - but do ask your physio for advice - that's what they are there for - to help you.
