I left Wednesday at 2pm. My normal day ends at 3pm. My coworker did not tell me till 11:50 that I had to file and put a 3 inch high stack of papers in abc order and file in one of my bosses' desk. She new about this since 8:30 am. I was in the file room going through files.

This was right before my lunch @ 12:15pm
Well, could not concentrate that day
It was Thanksgiving Eve and I needed go shopping and get home.

Everyone else left early without notifying me at 12pm I and the acting boss were the only ones in the office. I had to close up, answer the phone and clean up. The acting supervisor said it was okay to leave at 2pm. I left both bosses an email stating I could not accomplish the task given that day and That I would finish it first thing Monday.

Should I have just stayed till it was done (I would not have finished till 5pm) ? I am thinking really I screwed up?

Try this, Dawn

Get in early on Monday, organize the files, then discuss the situation with the boss. Having the task done already and showing a little initiative should give you bargaining points.

Above all, agree with your boss how this should be handled in the future. And in the future, make sure you know when tasks are required to be completed when you are given them.

Clear communication is the key to a healthy work environment.

You're probably OK, don't worry. The day before a holiday it's pretty common for people to leave early, and if basically everyone did, it shouldn't be a problem that you did too especially since the acting Supervisor said it was OK.

When you get to work tomorrow, get right on the task you left unfinished and see if you can get it done tomorrow morning.

Good luck.

Chances are you are okay. I would have told them face to face instead of through an email - people will say that they never received an email from you - in that event, you print out the email and give it to them. If you are scheduled to be to work at nine, try going in at seven thirty or eight o'clock at the very LATEST. Pick up where you left off and that my dear, will show that you have the initiative to get the job done.

This really sounds like the Jezebel's at my job! One of them intentionally gives me the wrong information! But I'm smart enough to double check. Grrrrrrr! I have a strong dislike for my job.

you're FINE they are NOT going to fire you over ONE thing like this! Especially if you already emailed them to let them know! I say you are getting youself upset for NO reason! If your supervisor had said you could go at 2 then this is not your responsibility to worry about this anyways! so don't act like you did anything wrong and NOONE will blame you! If you go in there acting 'guilty' on Monday morning that is the only reason they would think that you did something wrong!
