How long do you think it will take, before people who *think* they have a ' Designer breed ' will realize that they have been scammed ?

How long til they realize that they bought a mixed breed dog that can't be registered or anything at all, and yet, they paid FULL PUREBRED price for this mixed breed dog?
Will it be soon do you think?

I'm with Vet Tech. When they realize that cute doesn't last that long. And that their cute designer dogs has a ton of medical problem, cant be house broken because of a medical problem or at all.
Maybe some should read this article sent to me by a friend to see exactly where all these designer dogs end up when the cute has worn off, or medical bills are running to high.

Designer dogs are NOT bred by good and resposnible breeders but breeders ( and I use that term very loosely) who want only cash, they care nothing about health, temperament or much else just the money they make from these poor dogs and the gullible people who purchase them.

I predict, in about 9 mos from now the whole thing will burn itself out. If you consider how many questions there have been this last week about mixed breed dogs for Christmas presents. And consider that the only one breeding these mutts and selling them for Christmas time are the backyard breeders and puppymills. All these badly bred Christmas gifts will be just old enough and big enough that people will realize that they do shed, they can't be housetrained, and they can't learn to come or anything else a regular dog learns easy. These badly bred dogs will start to have their health issues and people will realize that they aren't all they thought they were. They will dump them at shelters, but people will quit buying them because word will be out.. Designer breeds do not have this hybrid vigor of which they speak, and they are not healthy, not rare and not worth the huge money that puppymills charge for them. They are like you say, mixed breed dogs.

People purchase this designer breed because they think they are getting something "special". It's a dog - and the sad thing is - it probably won't live up to their expectation.

It will probably be hyper and need a lot of exercise that the people were not considering - why - because the breeder didn't consider temperment when breeding.

It will probably have unforseen or unexpected health problems - why - because the breeder - thinking along the lines of "hybrid vigor" didn't bother genetically screeening his/her dogs for vWD, knees, elbows or hips.

It will probably not be hypo-allergenic. The guy from Australia that first bred labradoodles for service dogs for people with allergies had a litter of like 6 (or was it nine) and only ONE was hypoallergenic. ONE. What to do with the others . . . alas, they were just regular dogs - not special - just dogs.

People will get over their designer dog when they realize - sh!t - it's just a dog that I have to feed, walk, pick up its poo, socialize and train, just like all the other dogs out there. Mine's not special enough. So they dump it and look again.

I sure wish I had money to throw away like they do.

And, people think they will have a healthier dog because of its mixed lineage, but that is not always the case. Sometimes the designer breeds receive the worst weaknesses of both sides. You do make an excellent point!

No time soon. From what I've seen it's getting worse. Morkies, Dorkies... The latest was a "frenchton" french bully & boston terrier. All the mutts in the pounds right now & these people are making money selling designer mutts. It's ridiculous!

No, I have absolute faith in the gullibility and stupidity of the majority of the human race.

Doesn't help when some idiot t.v. station does an hour documentary on "designer dogs" either - the way one did a couple of years ago.

Although I'd like people to realize that before they even buy the dog, I really don't think they will ever learn.

About the time their dog is diagnosed with hip dysplasia, heart problems or any number of health issues or they have to put the dog down because the temperment is so bad.

About as long as it takes for THIS to happen:

I second that Vet Tech. They pay way too much for what is really considered a "mutt".
