im a sophomore in high school and was just wondering what i would need to shoot by my junior year to get some looks from some pretty good division I schools. the season just ended and i averaged about a 40 9 hole average and about 78 to the low 80s on a par 72 per 18 holes. i missed the cut by 1 to advance to sectionals and placed 11th in conference. i would really appreciate a year by year guide as to what i need to shoot. thnx in advance.

Your scores need to come down quite a bit to get a Division I scholarship - but scores are not the only things college coaches look at. If you have a solid swing and a good attitude about taking instruction and practicing that can mean something too. Your high school coach can help by giving you good recommendations (if you deserve them), but the level of play in D1 is about even par.

You might consider playing in a Division 2 or 3 school. It is a lot more fun to play D3, than to not make the team in D1.

Looking at the scores of Junior golfers of Connecticut who have gone on to college and made the teams, the average handicap is scratch to plus 4. That means the average scores based on their 10 best rounds out of the last 20 played are par to 4 under for the best golfer. The golfers are good and the competition keen at the college level. There are a few college golf teams in lower divisions which have an easier schedule where a four handicap is a respectable player.

Don't focus so much on shooting a number as much as trying to get as good as you possibly can. Hopefully you have an instructor,if not you need to get one . Work on all departements of your game, especially your short game. Work out both for strength and stamina . Read as many mental golf books as you can eg.books by Bob Rotella. Do all this and you'll be working towards being the very best golfer that you can be .

You would have to shoot in the low to mid 70's to play golf in college. I heard this from a golf coach at FAMU. He was looking for players that shot at least 74.

you could upload Ohio State to the checklist yet i could concur that Duke is a school that merits interest. certainly one of our state golfers gained an entire experience at Duke, became into area of the collegiate championship winners and a multiple winner of the state women's open. the college is superb academically and rather popular. Regardless the place you go be confident that golfing is 2nd on your checklist. analyze are the main obligatory element of school.
