I often listen to the prayers of my church. It seem all to frequent that I will hear them ask for blessings from above when those blessings could just as well be given from right hear.

For instance:
Praying for peace and giving in to road rage.
Kind of silly that we pray to God for peace and we hate every one on the road.

Praying for God to control our life and then sitting on our duff in front of the idiot box all weekend instead of reading the bible and allowing the scriptures to influence us so we can make Godly choices.

And three: praying for our children and then buying them games like
Grand Theft Auto
Bully
Any first person shooter

I am not perfect either, but I don't pray to God for something I am not really trying to get and it just makes me laught to see some people doing that...

Just my thoughts.

Actually, I pray and give enough. I pray for blessings upon my meals, in thanks for all that happened in my day and for all the blessings I have been given. Yet, I try to give to those in need as much as I can afford. I'm not a rich person, but I try to make people happy.
In my understanding to what you are saying (Do you pray for bigger things and give in return the smaller things?), I have learned to be thankful and apply that to my prayers. However, if I am in need of something, I'll pray about it. I always look for good in times of bad.
Philippians 4:6: Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Psalms 66:18-20: If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

when you pray its not really so much about asking God for things. praying is a form of worship. in every prayer you pray you don't have to ask for something. praying to God is just simply having a conversation with God. its when you praise thank, and then maybe if its on your mind ask him for the things you want. i mean of course nobody is perfect because we are human. we will all fall short of his glory will an action, thought, evil way. don't pray for something you aren't trying to get. if you buy the wrong stuff, say the wrong stuff, do the wrong stuff, just think about it don't you feel guilty. thats when you also pray. if you want yor kids to make good choices don't buy those games no matter how much they beg. that's just being a good parent.

There is no such thing as praying too much. God wants to hear everything we have to say.

You are generalizing. Most people do not "hate everyone on the road."
Most Christian parents would not buy "Bully" or "Grand Theft Auto" for their children.

It seems to me as if you are picking and choosing.

I have a great idea: Look after yourself and let others do the same.

I don't know about you, but I try to get my spiritual life in order. Others' spirtual lives is not my concern. Neither is it yours.

I don't pray at all, yet when someone cuts me off in traffic, I don't give into my anger. Also, if I children, I would not be hypocritical and pray for them and then buy them video games like that.

Praying and giving has nothing to do with each other I'm afraid.

If you are not perfect, how is it you cannot understand imperfection in others? I agree that there is a lot of hypocrisy in religion today and it bothers me too. However, I am learning that how others act is not for me to worry about. That is God's collar to wear. I have enough problems keeping myself moving in the right direction. Maranatha!

i dont pray, i believe in god but to me you have to get off your lazy *** if you want something you CAN get on your own. I just think its funny how all we do is pray for a better world but we dont do anything to create a better world. Pretty sure god's is having difficulty sorting out the "i want a nitendo DS" from the "Please dont let my mommy die". I hate it when people keep blabbing about their sins and how they ask for god every day to forgive them. He, or she, knows your not perfect, he heard you the first time and forgave you once he got annoyed..

I pray for understanding. And my understanding said peace is not of this world.
