Does she run a lot? Healthy weight loss is usually about 1-2 pounds PER WEEK. I've lost 60 pounds, but it was over the course of 3 years. Healthy weight loss takes a long time..

If she is burning more calories than she eats, it's possible, but 8 pounds is a LOT. Maybe she is either under-eating, over-exercising or doing both.

The worst way to lose weight is to lose it too fast. It sounds like maybe she's eating an puking it up which is extremely dangerous and could threaten her health and her life. 8 pounds a week unless you are working out like on "Biggest Loser" AND eating healthy (even they hit weeks where they may lose 3 pounds). When you losei t too fast, you gain it all back and then some as soon as you start eating again.

I wouldnt consider an eating disorder. Some eating diets and lots of physical exercise will produce these rapid losses. If she is eating low calorie, high fibre, no or low fats, fresh fruits and veggies good amounts of water, and lots of exercise yes she can lose that kind of weight.

losing 8 lbs of "weight" on the scale is easy, it's mostly water. when ever a person goes on a reduced calorie diet the first week will always results in the greatest loss of "weight" on the scale as stored nutrients are metabolized for energy. with this comes a loss of stored water, she isn't losing fat.
