brush him daily?

Brush and comb daily. Use the brush first, then the comb to pick up stray hairs left behind by the brush. This will reduce shedding elsewhere.

You should not let your cat be fat. Get a quality "light" dry cat food, such as Royal Canin Light. Even with the "light" product, feed only a measured half-cup daily. It's OK to give as much soft food as your cat wants. Carbohydrates are the danger for a cat, so put him on the Catkins diet.

Your cat needs daily brushing, particularly if he is fat enough that he can't effectively groom all parts of his body.

If he's a short haired cat, a shedding blade is an excellent tool for removing excess hair - I've found it works particularly well on overweight cats.

On long haired cats a wide tooth metal comb and a de-matter are the best tools I have found for grooming.

All these things can be found at your local pet store.

cats lose hair when they become nervous.

cats have 2 seperate layers of hair, one of which sheds easily.

washing will help, or running a wet washcloth on the cat also will help.

be cautious about the type of brush used on the cat because cats fur is loosened easily and can end up having little fur.

use a cat brush.

keep the cat indoors and do not let it go out in cold weather.

give it a better diet for its age.

i have a cat that is a grey tabby. The kind that are built large. At first i had my problems with her shedding. Then my oldest daughter suggested thart i wash it every month, or about every three and a half weeks. It worked !!! ;) ;) ;) Now she barely sheds at all and if i brush her with a fine bristled brush link below. :) Maybe not exactly like the brush below but look at the bristles, their lenghth, diameter, and spacing. It gets out ALL of her excess fur.

All cats shed..you cannot stop it..but you can help minimize it by brushing your cat on a daily basis.

BRUSH HIM. my cat used to shed constantly and always had hair balls. i brushed him twice a week with a normal slicker brush. it helped a little. so i switched to brushing him daily with a Bamboo Cat DeShedding Comb. now he barely sheds at all and is very soft.
here is a picture of the comb:

you can get one online or at almost any pet supply store.

ALSO, quality cat food is very important! (especially if he's on the heavy side)
i recomend Innova EVO brand cat food. it's a quality, high protein, no grain food. i switched my cat to this food and he's lost weight, gained muscle, and his coat improved dramatically. it was like watching him grow younger.
here's the food:

and here's their 'where to buy' search to find local pet stores that carry the food:

Brush him daily, and give him a dose of feline hairball remedy now and then. It's a paste in a tube that acts as a slight laxative, and helps them pass hairballs rather than cough them up in the middle of the night for you to find with your bare feet. Any decent pet store or pet dept. will have it.
