You could efile because the W-2 does not accompany the electronic return but you could not paper file. Don't forget any 1099s for interest.

In theory you can e-file with only the data on a final paystub however this often does not include all of the information that a Form W-2 includes. Most pay stubs do not include the employer's Federal and State EINs and many do not include the different deductions such as pension plan and Section 125 plan deductions, at least properly coded to complete an e-filed return properly. I've seen countless returns that had to be amended once the W-2s arrived and the numbers didn't match properly with what was filed. If you don't amend when that happens, you WILL hear from the IRS at some point in the future when they run the numbers matches between your return and what was reported by your employer on Form W-2
If you file a paper return you MUST attach copies of all Forms W-2 that you received.

The only reason I can think of as to why you are so anxious to file your tax return is that you think or know you will be getting a refund.
Having deductions with your company such that you receive a refund is giving the government free use of YOUR money for throughout the year. I know this is common thing to do and I suppose it makes people feel good when they get the refund. It is not even a good saving account as you get no, absolutely no, interest from the government while they have had use of your money. I haven't received a refund in almost 30 years and do not intend to ever get in the position of getting a refund.
Go to your employer and tell them you want to change your withholding. They have the form with instructions on how and what to do. If you have interest that puts you in the position to itemize deductions, you can increase your deduction in anticipation of the of the itemized deductions. You can get your money monthly rather than sometime after January 1 of the following year.

You MUST wait until you get your new W2 from your employer. Federal EIN numbers and State Numbers CAN change if there has been a change in the business standing. It goes from a Sole-Propertiership to a Corportation or LLC and such. It is not guaranteed that the numbers will be the same. And yes each state is different but the IRS is nation wide. Added Note~If in February you don't have your W2 tax professionals will allow you to file with out it...but usually not till then.

A tax preparer isn't allowed to file your return without your W-2. If you efile it yourself, you could file as of mid-January sometime (IRS won't be accepting efiles until then) and nobody would know you were working from your last paystub and not your W-2.

Even if you figure out that you can, don't.
If you make any mistakes interpreting your data, you will get to do a 1040X form to fix the mistake. While a preparer isn't stumped by a 1040X form, they'll charge you $100 to do it.
The IRS can answer questions on the form, but unless you have really low income and go into a busy taxpayer assistance center, they can't help you fill it out.
