God creates hell, then threatens us with it if we don't believe. Sounds like the Mafia to me. Is there some theological point I'm missing?

Hell is a concept of the abode of the dead which was later distorted and 'demonised' by Christianity. The word 'Hell' is based on an ancient pagan goddess of a very similar name (Helle?).
The idea of reincarnation was a part of Christian beliefs until the whole idea was finally outlawed around about the 5th or 6th Century AD. Even some of the Church Fathers (like Origen) had accepted some version of reincarnation. Christianity has typically taken things and made them 'evil'.
Hellfire was emphasised so that people would obey the Church out of fear. No reincarnation, no opportunity to sin and return to Earth to learn or improve morally. Just a one way trip, up or down now. So behave and believe.
Even the Bible verses that talk about 'eternal torment' meant in the Greek more like 'chastening' for a indefinite period of 'limited' time. A spanking from God for a little while you see. This ties in with the Christians who believe in 'universal' salvation. Everyone's already saved but doesn't realise it yet. Therefore they did not accept 'frying without dying' either.

Faith in what? If it's faith in Atheism, then yes, I suppose that it would be. Faith that being an Atheist makes you somehow wise, when it does the opposite, it makes you foolish before God.
But trusting God through Jesus Christ, there is nothing wiser.
You have even gone the extra step of calling God a Mafia boss. That's not denial of God, that's rebellion. But if that's the way you want to be, then suffer what's coming to you.
What I would ask you is why you even spend time on it? Don't you have your life to live? Is this it? Is this all there is to your life, arguing with Christians and the Bible so that you can make sure that everyone knows you don't agree with it? What's that got to do with the price of tea in China? Lot's of people- most people don't agree with it. So what makes your argument any different?
So now we can know that you are not into it. So what now? What are you going to do today?

Salvation is a free gift...Jesus paid the price for you on the cross....You have a free will to choose what you want to believe,,,no one is making you do anything...God is Holy,,if you want to live with him and be a part of the family of God...you must have your sins covered by the blood of Jesus....You don't have to do it,,,but only a fool wouldn't want to. Satan finds a new one everyday.

Faith is something inherent in each person. It is why we don't need a religion to believe in a higher power. It is not analogous to protection money.
Religion misused, however, is exactly like protection money.

You cannot compare God to the mafia. He created hell for Satan and his followers, which you are if you choose NOT to follow God. There is no middle ground, you either follow satan...to hell, or you believe in the gift of Jesus Christ which you express through your faith.
There are two sides and EVERYONE chooses a side, so choose JESUS!!!

Sooo Christians say watch out for Demons and the devil- when mediums work or when ppl have visions(even if they are good)
and then they claim god created hell for them... so not only did God let them roam our territory but he gave them their own place too?
okaaaay..either ONE or th eother peeps! They are either locked away in a hell, or they are free to roam...on eor the other.
God wouldn't let them roam earth-if the devil did exist,...
