why does he talk to me about personal stuff when we are alone, but when we are around others he ignores me completely

You question doesn't make sense. If said he talks to you about personal stuff in private but not in public, that makes sense to me.
If you said, he pays attention to you in private but ignores you in public that makes sense.
If you mean the first, that he talks of personal stuff, he's confiding in you. These things are private and guys usually don't get emotional or show emotions, espeically in public.
If it's the latter, it depends upon your age. If you're really young, it's a guy thing with other guys seeing him and wondering what he's doing with you in private. If you're older, there's a distance he is establishing.
If you're in school and he completely ignores you except for in private, he's after one thing and and that isn't friendship.

Im not a guy but I know this one. All guys have the urge to boast and look all manly in front of their mates, its like girls wanting to look the prettiest.
So the more manly a guy looks, the more his mates appreciate him, thats why he ignores you...
But he shouldnt ignore you in front of his friends, talk to him and tell him how you feel when you are alone, he won't be angry, I have lots of guy mates who are like that and some exes... ;)

Well, most people don't want every single person in the world to know their personal prefrences, and especially when they are your friends he is around that creates a ton of pressure.

He is being disrespectful to you... It will only get worse!! I personally wouldn't worry about why he is rude to you.... I would have to say "next" and move on!!

because hes a jerk... honestly Hun if a boy does not know how to appreciate you, he should be dumped!!! i think its a shady thing to do. if he ignores you when hes around people then i dont think hes ready for any type of relationship, hes immature dont waste your time. i think you should tell him how you feel, maybe he doesn't even realized what hes doing... you never know what you have until you lose it... he needs a reality check from you.. good luck!!!

you don't mention if this guy is your boyfriend if he isn't maybe he just finds you a great person to talk to and let go of himself but he doesn't want his friends to know that he runs to you for comfort you don't know what his friends might think of him and if he is your boyfriend then you need to talk to him because seriously that is no way to treat a girlfriend because he should't be afraid to let his friends know that he trusts you and that he likes being with you.
