Good argument. I totally agree.
Why would a noble god not want his people to be educated and wise?

Ignorance is one thing . FEIGNED ignorance is quite another. Satan is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
And what is this knowledge that you think is so great to have. Obviously good knowledge is great to have and to use. But what good is bad knowledge unless you intend to use it. Verily I say to you it is better to have no knowledge than to have bad knowledge and take the chance of using it. May the wise understand. The people that God put to death knew full well that the wages of sin is death. Now maybe people will believe that God means what He says. Yet remember God didn't kill their soul only their body. It is your soul that is God's primary concern. There is a difference between a true atheist and a God hater. Most of the atheism I see here on R&S falls under the heading of the later.

I think you answered your own question. I have always wondered about the meaning of Genesis 3:22
" And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever".
I have asked many Christian what this means. They dare not give an explanation. The way I understand Genesis 3:22 is that God has in His Nature both Good and Evil and He did not want man (His creation) to be as omniscient and powerful as He is. I believe having acquired the knowledge of Good and Evil is what makes humans 'god-like' in nature. This premise however opens a can of worms for the Bible and would make us all rethink our understanding of the nature of God and His purpose in creating humankind and then denying us to be like Him knowing Good and Evil and living forever. I have no problem considering the possibility that God may also have 'Evil' in Him, in fact that would explain a lot of humankind's misery.

It was originally the tree of knowledge. The church added the good and evil thing later. The other tree was the tree of life and they would have lived forever which is why the gods in the garden had them driven out so that they would not become gods.

Jasumi has my vote, good answer. It makes no sense why anyone or being would want to deny a being access to knowledge, unless they are afraid that the knowledge will expose them for what they truly are. So hence God must be afraid that people would realize he is evil, or else he would have nothing to fear or nothing to "punish" people for. Seems like a total contradiction to me.

It's kind a funny that we always think God has to always be the bad guy.
Adam and Eve were the first human beings ever-there had never been anything like human beings before and now for the first time they would have free will-I don't know if angels have free will but mankind would and God needed to know having given man the freedom to choose would he still choose the one who gave him life and everything else?
Question are we the bad guy when we have new child that's now old enough to wander around on their own and we say to that child you can play in the yard but don't go out into the street!

I've always read that it was the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge.
God wanted Adam and Eve to simply obey and not question.
The eating of the fruit means that they asked a question which was forbidden and it opened up the whole can of worms on humanity.
What kind of justice system is that? If someone commits a crime and is sentenced, is it right to punish his children, grandchildren, etc., for every generation after?

The key to understanding what really happened is to identify two "trees" in Genesis 2:9.
God's Word abounds with figures of speech, symbolism, Hebraisms, metaphors, and types (the seven churches in the Book of Revelation, for example).
On the one hand, if I said to you, I'm going to paint the town red tonight, you would probably understand this figure of speech.
On the other hand, if I said the above to someone from China, for instants, he might think I'm going to grab a bucket of red paint, a brush, and paint the town red.
And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life (Christ) also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Satan). Genesis 2:9

><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Exactly what kind of fruit did Eve and Adam eat?
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Gen.3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
A tree to be desired to make one wise.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Gen.3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Their eyes were opened, they perceived, they knew.
They sewed fig leaves together and made aprons not to cover their mouths.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Gen.3:11 And He said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
What had God commanded?
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Gen.2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Not every tree including the tree of life was off limits but only the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was.
You shall surely die, speaks of the death of soul and spirit, not the flesh body.
Adam lived to be 930 years old and nobody has perished yet, not even Satan.
Adam and Eve ate assimilated or consumed knowledge from the tree of knowledge of good and evil Satan.
That is why God later said.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Gen.3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of Us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
We all must eat assimilate or consume knowledge of the tree of life Jesus Christ to live forever.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Gen.3:24 So He drove out the man; and He placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
To keep the way of the tree of life God placed straight gateposts and a flaming sword.
Our God is a consuming fire and His Word is a sharp two-edged sword.
><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><>
Matt.7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matt.7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

I'm guessing G-d was testing them. and their punishment was the knowledge that they were naked and ashamed. Every action has a consequence whether good or bad. G-d would not blatantly punish someone if they didin't do anything wrong. I think you have your story backwards. I'm sorry if you think G-d has done something to you or someone else. It's no reason to get so angry.
