daily value. Does this seem like a little to low of an amount or is it perfect for dieters? One bagel is 60 g. I've had two bagels just today. I think cutting my carbs really might be the start I need and when that stops working, I'll add another healthy habit.

no, 60 grams of carbs for a bagel is too high. Avoid breads, rice, cookies etc until you become low carb savvy. Don't read the percentage on the package because the bagel company does not want you on a diet in the first place. Read the serving size. Is a serving size the whole bagel or is it half. Also how many grams of fiber does it contain. You can subtract the fiber from the gram total because fiber, a carbohydrate, does not impact insulin levels. Regardles, that bagel is too many carbs in it.

Wow, I wasn't a big bagel fan until I saw your question. Your bag of Bagels is correct 60g of carbs is about 20% of RDA. It is a ridiculously small amount to ingest as a daily amount. A 2000 calorie diet calls for at least 250g and a 1200 calorie diet at least 150g.

Carbohydrates are your body's quick fuel source. It would be unsafe to drastically cut carbohydrate intake.

Your nutrition source is offering you bad advice. I wouldn't recommend you getting all your carbs from bagels either since it will almost immediate convert to simple sugar which if it isn't used right a way will turn into fat stores.

Carbs are not bad. I am so glad to low carbs craze is over. When you deprive yourself of carbs you will lose weight but you will also move slower and your body will react as if you are starving yourself. This can lead to binging. Don't focus on one portion of nutrition over another think about balance of your meals. A piece of whole wheat bread with fruit based (not high fructose corn syrup) jelly is a better option than a bagel with cream cheese. Not saying you should never eat bagels, just saying whole wheat bread should be your first bread option. Save the bagels for your day at the gym.

If you are looking to start cutting back on carbs, then you are right. 60 is more than 100% of what a "Low Carb" eater would consume in a day.

Give the bagles to your mom, and go eat some scrambled eggs and ham.

if losing body fat is one of your main goals of your new diet you need not consume more than 30% of your daily calories from carbohydrates. only a competitive athlete in season would require such a high carbohydrate intake anywhere close to 300 grams daily. the "average" person in the US needs no where near that amount of carbohydrates daily to function properly.
