Yes.

The Golden Rule was supposedly the message of Jesus.

Too bad his followers don't follow it.

It might, but the bible is more than that. The bible is where Christians get their beileif that Jesus is God. It is where we get all the silly rules to live by, like circumcision and not eating shellfish (rules not silly at the time, but definitely not someting that makes sense being connected to religion). The bible is a book that helped people live properly during the time in which it was written. Had it been written sooner, it would have included different rules, as shown in the difference between the NT and the OT.
Now, if religion were condensed into those three words, you'd be good to go...

The message of the bible is NOT the Golden Rule. It starts in Genesis 3:15 and ends in Revelations with the story of God's love for us and why Jesus was sent to die for our sins so that we can spend eternity with the lover of our soul. It's called the "Good News" or the "Gospel". Yes, the Old Testament points to Jesus all the way through, you just have to actually study the scriptures.

No

The good parts of the Bible, like the Golden Rule, were not original thoughts, and were borrowed from other cultures and philosophies. The Golden Rule had been around as an idea for 100's of years before the authors of the Bible decided they wanted to have Jesus say it.

You mean do unto others as you would have them do unto you? that's actually in the bible. And yes we should talk about that one more often. Can people do that without Jesus? I kind of doubt it. Even the Christians who pray a lot to show love and tolerance and faith in the midst of sinners who use and abuse them have a hard time. I have yet to see a person who does not believe in Jesus treat anyone godly in a consistent manner. Especially when they are being mistreated.

If you're just talking about the Law (for the Bible is more than just that), it is actually simpler as this -- the Law is Love. The problem with that is humankind is too good at justifying its actions. This is why God had to give so many commandments and, then, hundreds of statutes to further define the commandments.

While the Golden Rule is certainly important, dear one, the main MESSAGE of the Bible is Jesus. He is Life. Without Life, there is no point in the Golden Rule or anything else that is good.

God bless!

If you think you can consistently and accurately practice the Golden Rule without the Lord's grace - congratulations, you would be the first human to do so since Jesus Christ!

it is.
the golden rule is "receive God's love, and give it to others."

but a piece of paper with those three little words wouldnt be understood.

so the Bible is detailed in who God is, what He did for mankind because of His love, and instruction on how to give love to others.

Even that would not have worked. People expect
more. They want something for behaving as they should.
They want a reward. A prize at the bottom of the box.
