Here's a good list of blues/rock types that should peak your interest and this is coming from a blues player so give it a chance and check em out.
1. Ronnie Baker Brooks - one of the absolute best guitarists out there now for rockin blues.
2. Bill Perry _Check out songs from his older albums and live recordings from Manny's Car Wash in NY. Greycourt Lightning CD was pretty hot. Unfortunate that he recently passed away.
3. Gov't Mule/ Warren Haynes - not exactly your quote/unquote Blues but the music in itself is amazing. Also as a footnote check out Derek Trucks as well.
4. Coco Montoya - Solid blues guitar
5. Bernard Allison son of Luther Allison. Any stuff from either man is smokin.
6. Motor City Josh
7. Howard and the White Boys
8. Indigenous
9. Lucky Peterson
10. Blues Kravin my band :) follow the shortcut below

Definetly check out Robert Johnson, King of the Delta Blues. So many bands have covered his work such as Cream's Crossroads or Zeppelin's Traveling Riverside Blues. If you like Clapton, then you will love the album Riding With the King, which is Clapton and B.B. King. It's an incredably good album, i recommend it!

Definitely check out Robert Johnson. Although he recorded acoustically, a lot of the roots of 60s pop blues come from his stuff, and you will recognise a few lines here and there that were used by Hendrix ("You know what I'm talkin about! - yeah, that's what I'm talkin about!"), Dylan ("I have a bird that whistles, and I have a bird that sings"), et al in their songs. Also check out 1960s Bob Dylan if you haven't already. He usually pops a couple of blues numbers on every album, and some of them are fantastic.
The John Mayall Bluesbreakers album with Clapton reading Beano on the front is superb - great guitar and harmonica.
If you're into more heavy stuff, Machine Head by Deep Purple is very heavily blues based - Lazy is one of my top ten all time favourite tracks of all time, a heavy electric blues with superb soloing on it.

Google, "Mississippi blues artists, and go back to the roots of old "black" blues. It's the best. But it sounds like you are into new blues, people who haven't really ever had any reason to have the blues, as one artist put it once. He said you got to have the blues to sing the blues. Maybe BB KIng said that, I don't know, but I suppose you can have the blues about things other than poverty, such as having them due to your love leaving you or cheating on you. I still think the original, pure blues are the absolute best. But that's just me.
I stuck in a link to a youtube song and there's plenty more like it on the right side of the page:
