I have some fresh drywall, taped, mudded and sanded by a professional. I'm using a primer by Glidden made for drywall. Just wondering how many coats I should put on.

Most primers are made for one coat but I prefer to use two just to be certain of complete coverage.

Glidden Drywall Primer

one or two coats should be enough. I did a textured wall with spackle and used two of the primer. I think Glidden is pretty good, I would think that it might even tell you on the can. If you are using a shellac based primer I would certainly use two or three. I once did a wall that wasn't covered enough and missed areas showed through.

If you're planning to paint a dry color over a light or white basic wall you should plan on at least two coats, possibly three. If you don't the white wall will distort the color you're trying to use. Been there, done that. Practice on a small area first before committing to the project.

2 coats if you have textured the walls otherwise one coat of the correct drywall primer will work.

One good coat is enough.

If you are using a deep base color on top, you can have the primer tinted to help the paint cover better.
