Christianity didn't come about till about 100 years after he died. He was the supposed Jewish Messiah. The Jews that chose to follow his teachings eventually called themselves Christians after his name.
Jesus was Jewish, as were all those around him. The old testament is most of the Jewish Torah.

no, and it can be confusing. but jesus was indeed a jew. and until after jesus was gone, there was no such thing as a christian. what happened was the roman leaders started the catholic church and to make everyone more comfortable they mixed in a lot of paganism. it is far from the religion that Jesus' followers practiced. in fact the earliest "christians" were more jewish than christian. and to this day there are many jewish christians, messianic jews, hebrew roots christians and others who still practice the jewish religion and yet believe that jesus is the messiah. the traditional jews do not believe jesus is the messiah because when he was here he didn't fulfil all of the old testament prophecies of the messiah and also they do not believe in him because christians make him out to be god. i am not going into that right now. but i hope that what i have shared has helped clear up some things for you.

Jesus was a Jew. Most people in Europe at that time were Jewish. But anybody that believed Jesus was the messiah therefore became the basis of the Christian religion, while everyone who didn't remained Jewish. Christianity is an offset of Judaism. And the name "Jews for Jesus" is a name for people who for some strange reason don't reason don't want to be called Christians. There's no shame in it, a Christian is defined as someone who believes Jesus was the Messiah.

Jesus *was* ethnically jewish...
(that from medieval times on western images of him have tended to the blonde and blue-eyed notwithstanding)
Christianity takes its name from the belief that this Jewish Jesus was also the Christ.... A title, a description of his role, status...
(Messiah, Saviour, chosen one of God...)
The majority of Jews do not accept that Jesus was the messiah, and look forward to the coming of the true messiah.
But a Jew can be a Christian, the two terms are not mutually incompatible.
"Was Jesus the messiah?" is the principle dividing question between the Jewish and Christian faiths.
A similar point of status/identity divides Christianity from Islam: "Was Jesus a prophet, or the divine Son of God?"

We believe Jesus was God who became a man in repsonse to a promise made to the Jewish believers. The Christian faith believes Jesus was rejected by his own in fullfillment of the words the stone the builder rejected became the chief cornerstone and that through their rejection salvation was offered to the world. Jesus used the parable about a man holding a party and sending out invitatins but people were too busy or engaged in other pursuits so the person holding the party then commanded his servants to go out to the streets and bring in the others that society would look down on.

It is simple, really. Jesus was Jewish when he was on earth. He obeyed the Mosaic law - all 613 statutes and regulations. As long as Jesus was alive, he kept the law as a good Jewish man would do and so did the apostles and disciples.
The religion known as Christianity is named for Christ. Christianity technically began on the day of Pentecost when Holy Spirit was poured out on the 120 disciples assembled. The followers of Christ became known, by divine providence, as Christians. Acts 11:26. Christians are followers of Christ. Since Christ did not follow himself, he was not a Christian.

The Jewish faith is the foundation of Christiano,,,the whole Old Testament points toward Jesus as our Savior....while clothed in flesh and walking on this Earth,,Jesus was a Jew as were his parents....but when he died, a new covenant came....Now we follow the lamb....who died for us on the cross for the remission of our sins...if you have Jesus, you have the Father....Jesus was God clothed in flesh.
Jesus was the Messiah the Jews were looking for but many of them do not accept that. They wanted him to come as a King and he came as a lamb...

Jesus IS Jewish, and obviously Christian.
You could say Jesus is a member of "Jews for Jesus".
