Sure - Look who's supporting it. There's the UN, and world governments, politicians, and liberals.

There solution is universal - more government controls, higher taxes, and less individual freedom.

Listen carefully - It's your children's future, their freedoms you're bargaining away.

Global warming is happening. The question is what is causing it. And that is the political issue.

One side says that it is a natural cycle, like other weather patterns just over a longer time period. They operate under the opinion that nothing we are doing is contributing significantly to global warming, thus believing that we should not regulate business to prevent them from contributing to problem that isn't "real." They point to previous ice age and historical variations in temperature and weather as proof that they are right.

The other side argues that we are contributing greatly to global warming, if not the primary cause. They want to put regulations on things that are believed to be human causes of global warming, such car emissions, and emissions from industry. They point to the increase in hurricanes, migrations of animals farther and farther north, and the "rapid" increase in global temperature over the last several years as evidence that they are right.

Both sides claim that the other side is only holding their position to make money. Either that they will make a fortune by instituting and enforcing new regulations, or that they are making a fortune by ignoring the environmental costs.

Both sides have scientist that support there opinions, and both claim that the other sides scientist are full of sh**.

There are a number of potential threats that could cause the human race to become extinct.

For some of them the science is pretty well developed, so we know the odds are very low of this or that happening ... for example, there is an asteroid that may hit the planet in 2036 and kill a billion people. Currently the odds on this are running like one chance in 10,000. We will be able to firm up the odds better after 2029, after it has a close pass by Earth on its way close to the Sun. If the odds go way up, will 7 years be enough time for the politicians to eliminate the threat?

There are some threats where science has got a pretty good idea, can get some improvements in understanding, but there's a lot of people out there who want to make a profit doing things that will increase the odds of us all getting hurt, so they create bogus like urban legends to undermine what the scientists have to say.

There's also various enthusiasts of one view or another, who try to soup up the message, and in the process, introduce bogus arguements, which get torn down, undermining whatever message they were trying to promote.

Concerns of people, for various threats, and if we doing enough to combat them, tend to grow as
* millions of people lose good paying jobs because of the crisis, or know people who have lost their jobs because of it, and these people want to vote for candidates who will restore those good paying jobs
* millions of people lose their homes, then get moved to crappy accomodations, and what the politicians to fix the mess that caused this
* some movie comes out which may or may not be scientifically bogus, but never the less, a lot of people talk about the content, and get very interested in the subject, who might not have been paying attention before
* some natural disaster occurs like tidal wave ... many many people inconvenienced ... other people ask what are the odds that could happen here, and if it did, how good are our warning systems, evacuation plans ... how often should they be tested ... the scale of the disaster one place has great influence on the desire of people some place else to have their government be seen to be protecting them

Yes it is. global warming is a natural process all based on evolution. the earth heats up and then cools down into an ice age. now, pollution is NOT good for global warming and may be causing the earth to warm up faster. but global warming SHOULD NOT be a political issue. dont worry about it. yes - conserving is a good idea, so you should take action on that. but global warming should not be a political issue.

You haven't heard of the 'Global Warming Gravy Train'?
More Taxes and control over others = lots more kick backs to politicians with new government funded programs.
Of course it will not do anything to improve the weather but it sure will diminish your standard of living. Be sure to have lots of heavy clothing for cold weather when you can't pay your heating bill due to higher taxes.

It's so obvious that it's the deniers that are the 'political gimmicks' here! They seem so ignorant of even simple physics, that their aguments sound like they're all just grade school dropouts!
