The Reserve and Guard deploy just as much if not more than Active duty. There are missions that only the Reserve and Guard have that are needed on the battle field. However, generally speaking it is one weekend a month two weeks a year if you are not activated. This does not mean that you will deploy as soon as you join either. I was active for 4 years and never deployed.

It all depend on the reserves unit you end up at. If it is their time to help support Operations in Iraq or Afghanistan then you will deploy. It is part of the risk you take when you join the Military. Reserve is two weekends a month two weeks a year. If you do not want to deploy then do not join.

OK have u noticed we have been at war with terrorist since 2001? if the military has no combat going on anywhere and u join then yes maybe u will skate by in the reserves without going to combat. but if u join wile any combat is going on don't bother thinking u won't go somewhere. the army and the marines are the main ones actually doing combat though. i really don't know what the air force is for. probably just work on planes and stuff like that. but u would probably get activated to cover down for a base. if u joined the army or marines u would get activated and sent to Iraq or Afghanistan.

That's a question you need to ask the people where you plan on signing up at. No one on Yahoo has that type of information other than just general information which isn't what you're looking for. What are you looking for by enlisting in the Air Force? Those answers and deployment are the most important to get answers to before you sign any papers.

First you must complete the horrific rigors of USAF recruit training. To give you a heads up about the challenges you will face; make sure you know which is the soup spoon and which is the salad fork.

That is true: deployed as needed. But when you are considered "needed" no one can predict but the powers that be. Good luck and thank you for considering this. You are a hero.

the men I know who are (still) in service are deployed as entire units and return as an entire unit.

look into when the unit you're possibly joining was last overseas.

You are deployable as needed. If that possibility isn't something that suits you, please don't enlist in my Air Force.

"One weekend a month" is old school. New school is that the Reserves are pulling quite a bit of the weight in the war on terror.
