In Samkhya Yoga philosophy, a "life" comes into being, when a "Buddhi" - the repository of all of ones past karma - enters into a "can be life form": a mothers egg. These con-joined items, then become "one".

The question as I see it, then becomes at what moment in time, does this con-joinment occur?

Which raises the question of , when and if an unwanted pregnantcy should be terminated?

In yoga, the heart, its beating, signifies the presence of life. My contention thus becomes that an abortion could be sanctioned prior to any beat of the heart.

An M.D. responded, when I had asked him the question of "when does the heart first begin to beat during gestation"?: "it's difficult to determine".

The current scientific belief is that, its detection is not possible until after the 1st trimenster.

It is therefore my belief, that abortion should be sanctioned up to the end of the 1st trimester, but not afterwarads.

Agree, or disagree: substantiate the position you take

We have been dealing with this question since the dawn of time. No answer at any point in history has been fully satisfying or fully acceptable to all.

In ancient Rome, they had baby dumps. If a baby was born with defects or some other issue was present like the inability of the parent or parents to support the baby, it was tossed into the dump and died from starvation.

By our sensibilities of today, that action would be considered appalling, yet it was common practice in Rome.

Further, what the Yogi is not considering is individual karma and how all of us play on that stage.

What if the spirit being born or reborn was meant to die this way? What will that spirit not learn by being denied the one thing that will allow further important growth?

As Shakespeare once said, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

To attempt to create a template suitable to all, you are tampering with stuff far beyond your reach.

Just so you know, an unborn child's heart begins beating just three weeks after conception (just one week after the mother misses her period). This would be at five weeks gestational age (counting from the first day of the mother's last period). There is no debate about this. Because the baby is so tiny, however, standard vaginal ultrasounds are usually not able to show the heartbeat until approximately seven weeks gestational age (five weeks after conception).

We could see the hearts beating at 7 weeks... just thought you would like that info, I'm not going to fully join the debate.

Life begins as soon the soul is present. Scientist may not detect it, but life is already there. No real authentic yogi is agree with abortion, maybe some bogus so-called yogis, but not real yogis.

People only have abortions because they do not want to be responsible for their prior actions. I must hold to the Law of "Thou Shalt Not Kill." If you follow this law, you will have no need to figure out the perfect time to kill the fetus, before the heart starts beating!
