Raw meaty bones are good...but you have to have a good butcher to get them easily.
The Kong may seem expensive, but they usually last for a REALLY long time. You may pay $15, but then unless your dog is a really aggressive chewer it should last you for 5-10 years easily. I got my first dog six years ago and the kong we bought her then is still in use (we have since bought several more kongs so that we can stuff one and put it in the freezer while she works on another one or stuff several and have a ready supply of frozen kongs throughout the week...plus we have more than one dog now).
Tennis balls are good toys for dogs, but do not make good chew toys as the dog can swallow chunks which could cause blockages and result in expensive vet bills or death.
Nylabones work well for some dogs, but others don't see the point or are too aggessive chewers and will swallow chunks.
Orbees are also great and durable toys, although again very aggressive chewers can probably go through them pretty quickly.

Marrow bones are the chew of choice around our place. Cheap, healthy, they clean their teeth, and they don't smell bad. Bully Sticks are in second place, although the ring shaped ones are the fav.. Kongs are great though, and the black ones last a while. My destructo-dogs have killed a few, but it took awhile. Best thing with those, that I've found, is to NOT buy that cheap crap-in-a-can they sell, but put *sugar-free* peanut butter (Adams is what I use), or their favorite canned food in it and freeze it for about 20-30 minutes. Good luck !
ADDED: I second the Orbees! Planet Dog makes awesome toys out of Polymer (and they smell minty.)

It can be a established fact that pups no matter what breed will invariably want awareness. Have you ever idea that possibly the pup possibly biting the youngsters in view that it needs awareness. I've 4 puppies. The 2 adult father or mother and they're two pups. I wouldn't have children but i've realized that pups and dogs can be simply as childish as your possess kids if it want's to play or any person to in actual fact simply look at it, it's going to do everything in it's energy to do anything in an effort to get him seen. I am no certain if looping him to your belt loop is any such excellent concept, nevertheless probably spending some pleasant time with the pup take it out for a stroll in case you have a yard throw the ball around make it determine all the pent up vigor it has saved. Also it is extremely essential that your kids mainly your 6 yr old situated his/her athority over the canine by using taking part in the dicipline when he's getting bit on. Any one mentioned make your kids dicipline the pup with a company no that approach the pup will look at your youngsters as figures of authority and no longer chew toys. Oh yeah by using the pup some Rawhide Chips and Bones too they work wonders with mine maintains them busy for hours. Excellent luck

Sadly they are right about the Kong toys. you might be paying a lot for them but those things are indestructible. they will last forever. Or those nylabone things seem to last pretty long. my puppy is little but he has the persistance of nothing you have ever seen. something that everyone says should take a while to get through takes him about 15 min. So i gave up on squeaky toys or anything that looks or feels hallow. I buy toys for durability. Kongs and those nylabone things seems to work great.

The only thing that my dog hasn't destroyed immediately has been the Kong. She had one that lasted a little over a year before she started pulling little pieces off, and I took it from her.
Nylabones are also good, and long lasting. My dog loves to chew, and she'll get those out of her toy box and chew away!

Kong toys for extreme chewers (the black ones) have worked wonderfully for both of my dogs. They both had smaller red ones when they were young, but I upgraded to larger, stronger ones once their mouths got larger. They never destroyed the red ones and continue to chew on them from time to time.
My dogs tear through tennis balls within minutes so when we play fetch I use a Kong ball. They love chasing them, bringing them back and they double as chew toys.

I work with large Military Working Dogs and they are only authorized to have the extra larg Kongs. I have only seen one Kong shredded, they are pretty indestructible. Defiantly worth the money. You can also fill the Kongs with treats like peanut butter or something they have to work at to get out. Pretty neat chew toy!

Kong toys last a really long time, so it's worth the investment. They also have the paste that you can put inside for entertainment (think peanut butter). It keeps bored dogs busy and helps with dogs who like to chew.

Don't get something rubber, because dogs usually chew it to small pieces and eat it. It would be a waste of money. I suggest maybe something hard if it is rubber something thick if it is fabric that something without laces or any strings because that will cause the dog to chew it and eat it. That would be bad. So but either a plushie that has no strings or anything. Also, get something with a speak, dogs adore that
