I saw a stray cat outside and felt bad for it, so I gave it a few kitty treats. It walked over to me and I pet its face. It enjoyed the attention, so I pet it for a while and then I noticed its tail. Its tail was cut at the middle and it was basically dead from there down. It scared me, so I gave it some treats and went inside.
My mother said that I could get a disease or give my indoor cat a disease for touching that cat, so I changed my clothes and put the dirty ones in the wash. Then I washed my hands and put on Germ-X. I washed my hair and washed my hands again.
Am I free from getting any diseases or transferring them to my cat?
P.S. I tried to call Animal Control, but the cat was gone when I checked the yard and I couldn't find it anywhere.

Not to say the cat is diseased, but it's good to be cautious and do what you did. I grew up playing with stray cats and so long as they don't bite you, and you wash up yourself well with antebacterial soaps and washes, you'll be fine.

The fact that the cat allowed you to touch and pet it means that it is to some level domesticated. It's probably run away from it's home and got into a wild cat fight.

As long as you and your kitty feel fine then there's nothing to worry about. Just continue with normal activities.

You've done well being compassionate to your little visitor and giving him a few treats. But if you do it too often they may get used to it and adopt you.

I took a look at your Q&A and you certainly don't appear to be a troll. I think it was a simple reflex response to being attacked by a wild animal with sharp teeth and claws. There is nothing to blame yourself for. There is a stray I used to hand-feed regularly at an outdoor cafe. A few months back it suddenly took a big bite out of my arm for no reason whatsoever. It found itself flying about 30 feet through the air but fortunately landed on grass. It was lucky it didn't hit anything hard. Simple reflex response. I couldn't throw a cat-sized object that far with a hand-flick if I tried.

you are taking this seriously, kid. You won't get a bad disease that easily. Just let the cat be, and next time you see a stray animal outside you should not bother it.
Don't call animal control to ask about that stuff, search the internet. Animal control is about pets alnost dying or if you get attacked by one, not by touching them. Just wash your hands more. Be smart.

That was a little extreme--feline leukemia spreads by saliva so just washing your hands would have been ok. Fleas would be my first suspicion, but not all strays even have fleas.

Try to get help for the cat if you can, about that tail. It sounds like it's very friendly.

You did great! But that cat should have stayed so the animal control can take it in case of a diease. anyways it was really good of you to listen to your mom and rinse.

Its not recommended. You never know what type of germs it has on it, sometimes germ-x and shampoo don't work. it's best just not to risk it.
