As a member of the "I'm not Northern, I'm not Southern, I'm East Anglian" group on Facebook I have to say Norfolk and Suffolk are very nice, but on the whole...
Newcastle. It's got a good mix of things which appeal to a wide range of people. It's a really friendly, buzzing city with good shopping, good night life, good transport. They have a thing about public art spaces and seem to commission quite sensible, attractive projects. If you want to get out of the city, there's loads of really interesting stuff within day-trip distance, like Alnwick Castle, Hadrian's Wall, High Force, Lindisfarne, Durham. There's good beaches at Tynemouth. And it's a lot friendlier and cheaper than London.

newquay in cornwall is really nice, it has a nice beach and good surf (you can have surf lessons for cheap) The shops are really cool. Best of all it has the best nightlife in the whole of the uk, if you go check out tall trees, the beach and you must go to sailors. London is pretty cool also but more touristy and obviously not a laid back holiday. Hope this helps x

I haven't been for a fair few years but if my memory recalls I would say Bournemouth, it had beautiful long sandy beaches and me and my brother were swimming in the sea and it was lovely and warm, they also have legoland and thru the park there is a model village etc. was great fun with a wee train that takes you along the beach, it is the closest we have had in britain to being abroad!

Depends on your age and interests but you cannot go wrong with Brighton. Great shopping, nightlife, restaurants and close to good countryside & other attractions and easy for London.
