I am surprised that not only non-muslims think that but also muslim men believe that they are promised by 72 vigins.
Here is the truth:
It has long been a staple of Islam that Muslim martyrs will go to paradise and marry 72 black-eyed virgins. But a growing body of rigorous scholarship on the Quran points to a less sensual paradise — and, more important, may offer a step away from fundamentalism and toward a reawakening of the Islamic world.
…The Quran is beautifully written, but often obscure. One reason is that the Arabic language was born as a written language with the Quran, and there’s growing evidence that many of the words were Syriac or Aramaic.
For example, the Quran says martyrs going to heaven will get “hur,” and the word was taken by early commentators to mean “virgins,” hence those 72 consorts. But in Aramaic, hur meant “white” and was commonly used to mean “white grapes.”

Some martyrs arriving in paradise may regard a bunch of grapes as a letdown1. But the scholar who pioneered this pathbreaking research, using the pseudonym Christoph Luxenberg for security reasons, noted in an e-mail interview that grapes made more sense in context because the Quran compares them to crystal and pearls, and because contemporary accounts have paradise abounding with fruit, especially white grapes.

When I worked in the middle-East it was plain to see that Muslim women (all women) were held in less esteem than a man's camel. My son and I often discussed what is the reward in Paradise for the faithful women of Islam. The only thing we could come up with was, since in most Muslim countries women are not allowed to drive, perhaps Allah gives them a car and drivers license. Sorry, all kidding aside but think about it. If a worthy Muslim man gets what, 72 virgins are these virgins (again, my son and I debated if the 72 virgins are really women or if the terrorist get 72 virgin men) worthy Muslim women, unworthy Muslim women, infidel women or....? If the men are in paradise are unworthy women allowed into paradise? Don't know. Best I can come up with as a possibility is that a worthy Muslim woman will be given one moral man. Why? As we know, or we believe, most women as monogamous in the long term. So would it be reasonable that a worthy Muslim woman's reward is to be in paradise with a moral man that they can love? I can't use the term worthy because that implies a worthy Muslim man who get the 72 virgins. Tough question and I neglected to ask my Muslimsfriends when I was in Kuwait.

We believe Muslim men will get virgins in paradise .. but as for the number 72 it's mentioned in an unauthentic hadeeth.
So hoor means white grapes? lol .. so all Muslims have been deceived for 14 centuries believing in virgins, And it's the first time I know Qur'an was revealed in Aramaic .. what a joke
Now read what the qur'an says:
[56:35-36] We have created (their Companions) of special creation .. And made them virgin pure.

Answer:
1. Hoor mentioned in the Qur’an
The word hoor occurs in the Qur’an in no less than four different places:
(1) In Surah Dukhan chapter 44, verse 54
"Moreover, We shall join them to companions
With beautiful, big and lustrous eyes."
[Al-Qur’an 44:54]
(2) In Surah Al-Tur chapter 52 verse 20
"...And We shall join them to companions, with beautiful,
big and lustrous eyes."
[Al-Qur’an 52:20]
(3) In Surah Rahman chapter 55 verse 72
"Companions restrained (as to their glances), in goodly pavilions."
[Al-Qur’an 55:72]
(4) In Surah Al-Waqiah chapter 56 verse 22
"And (there will be) companions with beautiful, big and lustrous eyes."
[Al-Qur’an 56:22]
2. Hoor Translated as Beautiful Maidens
Many translators of the Qur’an have translated the word hoor as ‘beautiful maidens’ especially in the Urdu translations. If hoor means ‘beautiful maidens’ or girls, then they are meant only for the men. Hence, what will the women get if they enter Paradise?
3. Meaning of Hoor
The word hoor is actually the plural of ahwar (applicable to man) and of haura (applicable to woman) and signifies a person having eyes characterized by hauar a special quality bestowed upon a good soul, male or female in paradise and it denotes the intense whiteness of the white part of the spiritual eye.
The Qur’an describes in several other verses that in paradise you will have azwaj which mean a pair or spouse or companion which means you will have spouses or companions pure and holy (mutaharratun means pure, holy).
"But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits therefrom, they say: "Why, this is what we were fed with before", for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (forever)".
[Al-Qur’an 2:25]
"But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, We shall soon admit to Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath – their eternal home; therein shall they have companions pure and holy: we shall admit them to shades, cool and ever deepening". [Al-Qur’an 4:57]
Therefore the word hoor has no specific gender. Mohammad Asad has translated the word hoor as spouse and Abdullah Yusuf Ali as companion. Therefore according to some scholars a man in paradise will have a hoor that is a beautiful maiden with beautiful big and lustrous eyes and a woman in paradise will get a man with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.
4. Women will get something exceptional in Paradise
Many scholars say that in context, the word hoor used in the Qur’an refers only to ladies since gents are addressed. A reply that would be accepted by all types of people would rather be the answer given in the Hadith when a similar question was posed that if a man gets a hoor, a beautiful Maiden in Paradise, then what will the women get? The reply was that the women will get that which the heart has not desired for, the ear hasn’t heard off and the eye hasn’t seen, indicating that even the women will get something exceptional in Paradise

We believe that all believers who enter into Paradise will get beautiful mates.
Number of mates are not mentioned in The Holy Quran.
Hur is not the only word in Quran, it specifies spouses, with different qualities, Hur being only one.
They will be Hur, same aged, beautiful, virgin, loving etc. There a seperate words for all the above mentioned attributes.
Martyred of couse will rejoice special treatment for their sacrifice.
Given below is the proofs for all these attributes of Hur..
55:70 In them will be fair (Companions), good, beautiful;
56:37 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,-
78:33 and splendid companions well matched,
56:36 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), -
before jumping to meaningless conclusions, do little more research, Mocking Islam is too easy and is a fashion of the day. But those who take it seriously will Insha Allah be guided.

Suicide bombers are not martyrs. They'll go to Hell Insha ALLAH because killing is against Islam. Martyrs are people who die in Jihad or in war. Or are murdered for being a Muslim. The virgin thing is stupid and a sexist mistranslation. The Al hoor are servants for the Muslim women. They are not for the men. Muhammad(PBUH*) said that a man's wife or wives on Earth will be his wife or wives in Jinnah. A woman's husband on Earth will be her husband in Jinnah. The servants are the reward for the Muslim women who make it to Jinnah.
