I'd recommend something upbeat and/or something from a musical. Unless you're in the first 3 performers - esp. at a school performance - long or serious songs will have the audience shifting in their seats.

Sweet Escape - Gwen Stefani
Umbrella - Rihanna
Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield
Suddenly I See - KT Tunstall
What I Like About You - Lillix
Popular - Wicked
Hairspray - pick something you like
High School Musical - pick something you like

Depends really, on which type of voice you've got , but Rihannas/Avril Lavignes are pretty good. Shakira is a favorite of mine, and Kelly Clarkson; I'm also practicing for a school performance, and I'm doing "Hero" by Mariah Carey.

I dont agree that Avril Levine is a good artist to get songs from. Avril's vioce that you hear on her cd's is clearly computerized. Try Miriah Carey (sorry for spelling errors.. cant spell today..), Rihannah, Mary J. Blige, etc. good luck!!!
