from the East came, brought gifts and worshipped the young child, ie Jesus ONLY?

Mat 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Why they did not worship '"THEM"'?
Why they did not worship "'HER'"?

Why they worshipped HIM, only?

Do you not want the same Wisdom upon you and worship only HIM?

father K, you missed the point completely.

They DID NOT WORSHIP HER,
They DID NOT WORSHIP THEM,

They worshipped HIM, and it is not even spiritual, it is basic English!

IS THIS NOT WORSHIP???

Catechism # 971 "All generations will call me blessed": "The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship." The Church rightly honors "the Blessed Virgin with special devotion. From the most ancient times the Blessed Virgin has been honored with the title of 'Mother of God,' to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs. . . . This very special devotion . . . differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration." The liturgical feasts dedicated to the Mother of God and Marian prayer, such as the rosary, an "epitome of the whole Gospel," express this devotion to the Virgin Mary.

Because the only ones worthy of worship are the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Mary is simply another human being and is no different from you and me! No where in Scripture are we told to either worship Mary or pray to her. This is yet another falsehood of the Catholic church. The catholic church is guilty of misleading its followers and will surely pay the price as we are told in Revelation Ch.17 V1-9 as they have taken the simple gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and turned it into some monstrous lie. The Pope claims to be God's Representative here on earth; Not so says the bible, we have a high priest at the Fathers right hand and God's Representative here on earth today is the Holy Spirit. Ask any Catholic how they know they are saved and have eternal life and just listen to the variation of answers you will get. The Bible is clear on this issue; If any one presents to you a gospel which is other than the gospel of the Lord Jesus; let him be accursed and if any one receive a gospel which is other than the gospel of the Lord Jesus, let him be accursed also. The entire Catholic church manages its followers with a doctrine of works and lies. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, It is the power of God unto salvation to all who will believe" "All who believe are justified from all things" "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me hath everlasting life" "And this is the will of Him that sent me, that everyone that seeth the Son and believeth on Him may have everlasting life and I will raise him up at the last day" "If any man believe on me though he were dead, yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth on Me shall never die; believeth thou this?" "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God" No where in the Scriptures are we told to have any contact with Mary as whilst the angel called her blessed which means "happy" The Lord used countless dozens of people throughout the Bible to fulfill prophesy and Mary was just another person He used. The mumbo jumbo that goes on in the Catholic church has proven them to be a total farce!

The answer is within that paragraph of the Catechism you quoted: "... DIFFERS ESSENTIALLY from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit".

Different = Not the same. Essential = in its intrinsic, fundamental nature.

Unless in your personal lexicon "devotion" and "honor" are exactly equal to "worship", plain English seems to be quite clear. The wise men didn't have a problem distinguishing this, and neither do we.

They worshiped Him because they believed, they followed the star, and they found Him. Mary was the first to believe. The first to see. The first to honour Him. We respect that. If Jesus is the Door, she is the foyer.

edit
"Intrinsic" and "devotion" should not be mixed up with honour due to Christ, which even He said, All honour worship and glory belongs to God. (the Father). So, you're stuck there. Why DID the magi worship Him, when God the Father ALONE is the one we are to worship? You're going to have to look at that one, hon. I wouldn't sweat it too much if I were you. God is a God of Peace and Tranquility. All I need to know is that Jesus honoured her and gave her the respect due to a mother and a most perfect vessel into which He allowed Himself to be nurtured and fed. Her many apparitions around the world today are because of God's will, not her own, nor of any human wish. God loves to use her in this way, and to say to God: "Hey, that's not a good idea" is just ludicrous. Are you going to argue with someone that big? I'm not. Just makes sense to me.

Her messages at any apparition (that's been approved), if you examine them, have to be totally in jive with the teachings of the church and of the bible. So go check them out before judging. She always points the way to Jesus and to God.

the irony is how the answer is in your little snippet

"This very special devotion . . . differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit, and greatly fosters this adoration"

devotion doesn't mean worship
it says right there that devotion to Mary GREATLY differs from adoration of God.

Father K did not miss the point - you did!
It is you who accuse (falsely) people of "worshipping" Mary, the Mother of God. Most mainstream Christians, Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Anglican, venerate Mary but they do not worship Her. Buy yourself a dictionary and spend some time studying that instead of accusing us of things we DO NOT DO! We worship God and God alone - Jesus and the Father and the Holy Spirit are ONE.

Magi, wise men, from the east, were Baby-lon Jews.
They came to worship their "King of the Jews": Law.
Jesus was notably "made under the law", of woman.

They didn't visit a babe in a manger at Bethlehem.
They visited a child(toddler) at his hse in Nazareth.
They didn't come at birth time, but aprox 2 yrs later.

There were not three wise men, but 3 gifts.
There were enough to stir up all Jerusalem,
and also King Herod, who lived elsewhere,
in royal city of the Romans, not Jerusalem.

So the Xmas stories told are a pack of lies,
and sadly they're often told in the churches;
Not just RC Cs, but also Protestant churches.

So what the Spirit saith "unto the churches",
is in Galatians, is written "unto the churches".

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

I'm not Catholic, but even I know that Catholics don't "worship" Mary. They give her respect as the woman chosen to bear Jesus, but that's different than worshipping. They also ask her and the saints to pray for them to God, the same way that other Christians ask their friends to pray for them. If you believe in the "Communion of Saints" as a bonding together of all Christians, both living and dead, then there isn't much difference between asking the mother of Jesus to pray for you and asking your living best friend to pray for you.... except that presumably, Mary is a helluva lot closer to Jesus than your friend might be.

Balaam you need to stop attacking other Christians in a public forum. It is unbecoming to proper Christ-like behavior. If people believe the following: Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, died on the cross to save us from our sin, rose the third day to conquer death for us, ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us, and is coming back to get all who believe this, then they are Christians.

The rest of what they believe is secondary and any disagreements we have should not be aired before a crowd of unbelievers.

Because the Blessed Virgin Mary is the Theotokos - the "God Bearer" - NOT God. Jesus is the Incarnate Word, God in human flesh....and only He and the Blessed Trinity do we worship. Mary is worthy of our honor, not worship.

Sheesh...I'm not even "Roman" Catholic and I know that!

They hadn't been dealt centuries of pagan dogma concerning the Christian religion. Thier beliefs were pure. They knew of a coming King. The Catholics hadn't been around yet to tell him that there must be a queen as well
