I have a question for you: Have you already gone through MEPS and gotten a ship date? The reason I am asking is because I would think Hypothyroidism would be a disqualifying disease, but you never know with the way the Army is hurting for bodies! As for the meds, you may be allowed to take them until you get an appointment and prescription from an Army doctor. I would think no Drill Sergeant would want to take the risk of you having problems because he took your meds away and you can't take them. Why don't you ask your recruiter, (assuming you are waiting to ship to Basic!)

your recruiter will ship you to MEPS first. there you will go threw a physical. let the DR there know what you are taking. if you are found fit for military service, then yes, you will be able to take your prescribed meds. make sure you take a 30 day supply with you to basic training and let your drill SGT know you need to go to sick call to get your meds into the system. once that is done you should be able to get your meds regularly threw the pharmacy for free.

You can not take meds to BCT with you, if you take meds then a red flag will come up on you possibly lying to get in.
If you have a medical waiver for your condition, and need medication during your training you will be allowed to go to sick call where you will see a Doctor who then if he/she feels you need any medication you will be given Meds at that time.
All the meds I recall being given out was cold packs, motrin oh your doing good if you get 800 mgs of motrin, tylenol, and Naproxen .
Do not take chances on trying to sneak it in you will get caught!
I suggest talking to your recruiter on this issue !!!
Good Luck,

nope. all meds must be prescribed by military doctors. you cannot bring your own meds, OTC or otherwise with you.
one of the two..hypo or hper thyroidism is a PDQ with no waivers authorized, but the other one is doable with a waiver.

when you get to boot camp they will take any meds away that you have brought. the doctors of what ever branch you join will take over and then you can only hope they wont screw up.
they will prob say its not hypothroidism, but you just have a cold and give you the drug for everything.....motrin.
