Ok, so heres the full story. I have very dry, flaky skin. It flakes so badly that whenever I change my shirts, they always have like tons and tons of dead skin cells, or flakes. I mean, like this is a big problem for me. I have gone to dermatologists, but they have not been of much help. If anyone is also going through this problem, or has gone through it before, and has found a solution, please let me know what you did. Please, I really need some help. Thank you.

I imagine everything i will suggest you will have been told to try by your dermatologist. But i will suggest some ideas anyway!
1. Try increasing the amount of oily fish in our diet. If you can't stand fish try taking alot of omega 3, 6 and 9 oils.
2. Have you been given a medical name for you condition? It sounds like a type of psoriasis. Talk to your dermatologist about using light therapy. Being in light showers can help.
3. Coal tar products can help, as well as, dare i say it! emolients such as E45.
4. Look at your diet. Try to see a nutritionist and perhaps have an allergy test. As well as some foods you are eating your condition could be worsened by dust mites or animal fur.hair.
5. Use a humidifier when you sleep and avoid turning on the heating. Also dry cold air can worsen your condition. Make sure you cover up with clothes or use a barrier like vaseline in extremes of temp.
The web page below may help?

Do you drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated from the inside out? All the body lotion in the world only treats the outer layer and not the root cause. I am surprised a dermatologist could not help you with your problem. Have you researched on line at webmd.com? That is where I found out my oily yet scaling in areas was treatable and now my family doctor has given me special shampoo and ointment for when the break outs are extremely severe.

Try doing things like patting your skin dry, instead of rubbing it, when putting on lotion, wrap up area in plastic wrap to retain the moisture, and use a less harsh soap in the shower. These will hopefully help the skin problem

Ok, i know that you said not to say to use lotion, but i have that problem in the winter, and had tried everything and nothing helped.
until one day my friend suggested this kind of lotion, and it works wonders.
it's from Clinique and it's called "dramatically different moisturizing gell"
it's in a little bottle, but you only need a little.
and if this helps any, if u take showers in colder water, it doesnt flake as much either.
good luck.

i read some of the answers u received and mine will seem odd but they r natural and will solve the problems not just cover the symptoms. try Natren Healthy Trinity. it's a pro-biotic, alittle pricey but very effective.get it at Vitamin Shoppe or Whole Foods. try Braggs apple-cidar vinegar 2 balance your body acid-alkaline.also don't use lotions esp Vaseline. instead use Spectrum coconut oil.use sparingly. it evaporates into the skin, can b used on ur scalp as well. now, more importantly, you must begin getting it into your diet. start slowly and build up to 3 tablespoons daily.

Have you tried baby oil? Works for me. While I am still in the shower, I put baby oil on a washcloth and rub it on my arms and legs. Every shower. Works alot better than lotion. Your skin soaks up moisture from the water and the oil locks it in. Don't put it on your face, as it plugs the pores-you get zits. Hope this helps.
