But I know that I need to be prepared when I do have a problem and I need to have more strength just to get thru the day.

To get back into a habit of studying your Bible you just have to use your will power and just pick up your Bible and start reading it. One good way to get back into studying the word is, get yourself a One Year Bible calendar...And you may not be having any problems but the problem is, your spiritually growth is at a stand still...I will be taking my own advice because i too have been getting a bit lazy in my studying of the word...

Make a schedule for your self. Setting your praying at times. But also pray when the need or urge is there. Bible reading at a certain(s) times. Look around the Internet for Bible Study Lesions. Some places even have them for free. That will send you tapes and tests.
There are also Christian Satellites with Christian TV stations and non violent ones. The Sky Angel satellite is collapsing and in Jan they are switching over to sending it through the Internet to your TV.

You already know the answer. The kind of praying and reading your Bible that you've been taught doesn't really make a difference in your life. To keep from being spiritually lazy, you have to exercise your spiritual. The beliefs you've been taught have nothing to do with spirituality. That's why you see no difference.

GREAT QUESTION
I think this is where "religion" comes into play. It offers structure, to prevent the very laziness you speak of
We structure other aspects of our lives, but many people fear structuring their spiritual life. That makes NO sense
EDIT: Well, as Catholic, I do need to go to Church if I am going to go to communion and receive the Eucharist. I can't hardly do that at home alone now can I. And I believe it was Paul in the Bible that said "do not forsake the assembly".

ALWAYS remember DEATH,remember that at any time ,with or without any disease, problems, friends, parents, children, relationships of all kinds ,you will have to DIE,and ask your self, where next ,who is to help you,and most important HOW did you come into existence, then all the spiritual laziness will vanish,,may GOD guide you to the TRUTH.

Focus on the real, and what you need to do, and what you want to do in life. That should keep you busy and happy.
Leave the rest.

try using what you know to help others & I do not mean "preach to /at them but maybe counsel them. I have found it has the capacity to keep one extremely busy.
for instance letting you know to try this for your self LOL!

I concentrate all my efforts on not being intellectually lazy.
As for spiritually or physically, I'm like the laziest person in the universe.

I focus on Jesus.
God keeps His word. Nothing bad necessarily happens to you here, even without God, but it is better with God.
