It is sort of tradition but doesnt really need to happen if the groom is not comfortable dancing with his mom.

Yes but when I go to weddings ...when the bride starts to dance with her father the groom joins them on the floor with his mother so they all dance at the same time.

It is one of the usual traditions. I danced with my dad to "I loved her first" by heartland. What we did during the intro to our respective songs was pre-record a little saying to our parents that played over the into music before the song started. Both our parents were in tears and the DJ gave us the recorded sayings on a tape to give to them afterwards.

Yes, thats pretty standard. But since its your wedding, you do whatever you want. We didnt do the whole garter/bouquet thing because we think its silly, so do what you want.
