Dogs should not eat chocolate.
It contains a chemical that is a toxin to dogs
"The truth is chocolate contains theobromine that is toxic to dogs in sufficient quantities. This is a xanthine compound in the same family of caffeine, and theophylline".
See below to a link which will give you all the details.
It does say it depends on the size, mass and sensitivity to the chemical but I wouldn't risk it.
There is no antidote and the half life of the chemical is 17 hrs.
Would you want to watch your dog stuggle with poison for seventeen hours

It takes a lot of chocolate to make a dog sick. A crumb will not make a dog sick. Baking chocolate is toxic if they eat too much. To be on the safe side, never give an animal chocolate.

Definitely not! Chocolate is one of the worst things your dog can consume among other foods such as grapes, nuts, garlic, raw fish, milk and mushrooms.
Your dog can seriously get sick if s/he consumes chocolate. My miniature dachshund was extreeeemely lucky when she didn't get sick by eating a whole 1 lb. chocolate easter bunny.

No, chocolate contains methylxanthines which are toxic and can caus vomiting, diarrhea, panting, excessive thirst and urination, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures, and even death. Other foods you want to avoid as well are coffee, caffeine, alcohol, avocados, macadamia nuts, grapes, raisins, yeast dough, raw/undercooked meat, eggs, and bones, xylitol (type of sweetener), onions, garlic, chives, and milk.

YES!!!!!!! it is ok to give your dog chocolate but not alot of it though. My mother in law had a dog who lived to be a very old dog and he loved chocolates. She only gave it to him every once in awhile. He even learned how to unwrap them and eat them on his own. That is when she started keeping it put though so he didn't eat to much of it. So in moderation YES it is ok to give your dog chocolate but keep it put up where he can not easily get to it.

NO.
it has no effect on my dog though,
when she ripped open a bag of chocolates which we were supposed to give for trick-or-treat.
but we caught her, so she only ate a bar.
chocolates can destroy their internal organ.
