I am thinking of breeding dogs. My friend from ireland said he breeds them and he'll ship them to me and I can sell them. I was looking at other breeders prices and some were $1900. This is a purebred Jack from Ireland, how much should the pups go for.

PS: I'll have only 2 or 3 at a time.

What do you mean "you'll only have two or three at a time?" You're going to somehow regulate how many puppies a dog has?

Or you're going to buy dogs from your friend and sell them here. People are stupid, but I don't know how many are stupid enough to pay more for an "irish" psycho insane active dog that will be thrown into a shelter before it turns two.

1900 dollar Jack Russells had better be the puppies of national specialty winners or some other great show dog, otherwise that price is ridiculous. A good show breeder will sell pet quality puppies for 1400 to make sure they get to good homes. Why would you import dogs from Ireland? Usually dogs are only imported from overseas when show breeders want to do an outcross to minimize an inbred trait (and if you don't know exactly what that means, you have no business breeding dogs). Its a waste of money to just ship them and sell, it costs a ton. You won't make any money. And if you friend is just willing to ship you puppies overseas to sell to somebody he's never seen, the dogs aren't worth that much in the first place because he obviously doesn't care about them enough to check the owners they go to, so he obviously doesn't put that much work into them, so I don't see how they could possibly be genetically sound and have been raised in a caring environment. Bottom line, breeding dogs won't make you any money unless you choose to capitalize on it, sacrificing animal husbandry for mass production. People who breed dogs (both well and not well actually) don't make any money off of it because the veterinary costs are so steep. Your friend isn't going to ship them to you at cost of shipping, he needs to get a return on all his vet bills at least, and theres another 100 bucks to get a puppy cleared for international travel, so you might end up having to charge 1900 to get your money back, but you still won't make any.

are these dogs going to be show dogs? Will you have all the necessary health tests before you breed? Will you have a mentor? These are questions to consider before breeding. As for the price, that price pretty much guarantees that the puppies will be healthy and show quality. However, I would not start off selling puppies that high! I would work my way into the dog community before really raising the prices. To start, I would sell for about 800 to 1000 dollars each. However, unless you get them registered with the AKC you are not going to be selling them for very much. I plane ride over form Ireland can be very stressful to dogs as well.

If I could offer you one bit of advice, I would tell you to adopt or foster dogs-and not import dogs to sell.

Just because the parent is from Ireland doesn't mean you should sell the pups for more then what they are worth.

I wouldn't buy a purbreed from a breeder. There are so many homeless animals that need a home- I wouldn't pay $1900 for a pure breed that I can easly find in a shelter or a rescue group. Anyone that just wants a dog for paper/family blood lines are crazy.

So your saying...Just because there from Ireland they can sell for lots of money....And your also saying I'm not breeding them but I'm stimulating it so I can get a few extra bucks right? They should only be 1900 if the mom and dad in Ireland are like great reps of their brreed.

SO many people are breeding their pets, trying to make some extra money & the market is soaked. The market is so full that even registered pure breed dogs & pups are being euthanized daily. They have these litters they can't get rid of & the litters end up in the pound or a shelter or a rescue.

You would need to see about getting them AKC registered. You would have to do all the leg work to see about that happening. Otherwise, why would anyone buy them for that kind of price???
They still need to be from health cleared parents and registered....especially if you are even thinking of charging that kind of price. They are in everyones paper weekly for less than $500.
