Hello,

I'm getting married in May and my dress has red embroidery on it. Can anyone suggest a colour that would compliment my dress for my bridesmaid's dresses? Is some kind of blue a possibility? Thanks :)

If you do agree with blue, is there a shade that you think might look good? Keep in mind its a May wedding.

Thanks for so many good answers! But for those of you who said stuff like "uh...red"? It's not that I hadn't thought of red and there is nothing wrong with red (for the person who asked), but I want me and my to-be-husband to match in red... and then I want the bridesmaids to match the groomsmen in ANOTHER colour that also compliments us. And don't worry everyone, I would never pick a bright blue that would make the wedding look like an american flag... That would be so tacky! I was thinking more of a light blue (not necessarily baby blue though!)

I would stay away from blue. Unless you want a patriotic wedding (you may not intend it that way, but whats the first thing in your mind when you see red, white, and blue?). Champagne would be my first choice. Red would work too.

Personally I like the idea of blue and think it would look nice (a dark shade of blue, not light) but I would worry that the colors (red, white and blue) would represent an american holiday rather than give the feel of a wedding.

So I would choose a color different than blue, perhaps have the girls in red to make the red in your dress pop out more. Or a champagne color, maybe a black and white theme and you would be the only one wearing a color (the red) while all the bridesmaids would be in black and white. Or what about a mocha color?

The link below is not a dress but it shows a red top paired with a brownish pant-it shows the mocha I was saying with your red.

Just keep in mind that if you go with blue dresses, it's going to be a very patriotic wedding. Is that what you're going for? The obvious color for bridesmaid dresses is the same red as your gown trim. I'm guessing since you're asking that you aren't into the coordinating dresses. You could go with a light blue color which would play down the whole red, white, and blue theme.

I think that red dresses for the bridesmaids will compliment the embroidery on your dress well. If you want to add blue to your theme, look at teal, turquoise, or tiffany blue. Those hues have a great pop to them if you are wanting a dramatic look. If you are interested in a more subtle touch, lighter blues should work great as well. Happy Planning and Blessings!

Your dress has a pinkish sheen so I would stick with that. I really love both the color posie and carnation for the bridesmaid dress. I think either of those with an ivory top, or just have both pieces being the same color would look great. Throw in some pink and white flowers and you'd be set.

I think royal blue would look nice but if it were me I would put the bridesmaids in red to match the embroidery or black and red.

I think a blue would look very nice with the red, or have your bridesmaids wear red. Either way, it will look amazing.

My wedding is in May too!! I think a champagne color will look good for the bridesmaids. Or a pink, or maybe if you wanted blue, navy!

talk to your florist about what kind of flowers you are having and look at how those colors work together...

really it depends on the red.. if it is a blue red, then blue or purple could work... if it is an orange red, then yellow would be nice...

why aren't you considering red?

Hi. What's wrong with red? I don't think red has a "season." Personally, I think red looks good all year!
