Hmm.. if it's in the same place, it may be stress-related. I have a really nervous cat, and when she gets stressed out she over-grooms her fore-leg. Perhaps your cat scratches his chin when he's stressed? It's one possibility.
It could also be a form of contact rash or where he fights (if you let him out). My other cat is always coming back with some cut or other. Males tend to fight alot.
It may also be from a flea allergy, as opposed to a flea collar allergy. Have you treated your cat for fleas?
The back of the neck treatments are best and they last 3 months and also worm the cat at the same time. You can get them from vets.
Hope he's OK whatever it is.

Could well be feline acne, but if the vet didn't suggest this then possibly not. He's certainly right about getting the flea collar off though - they don't work, did he tell you that? And they often do cause reactions.

Please pick up the phone and tell your vet the scratching is back, so they can help. If they don't hear from you, they'll assume the problem is solved, won't they? They'll say 'OK, it wasn't a reaction then, try this....'

My cat has a flea allergy! The vet gave me some stuff to help heal her skin and I keep her inside the house. We do not have a dog, so no fleas are inside.

She was scratching all the time and pulled out most of her hair- poor thing. She only had hair on her face and tail. I felt so bad.

She got fleas when she escaped one evening and spent the night outside. She recovered fine- that was like 8 years ago and no trouble since.

Hi there,

One of the cats I had whilst growing up had the same problem and it was due to allergies. If he's not allergic to the flea collar, he could be allergic to something else. My cat is allergic to flea bites, so check him to make sure he has no fleas and be sure to treat him monthly with a good quality flea treatment such as Frontline.

If he definitely doesn't have fleas, you might want to take another trip to the vet, as my cat had tablets that cleared up her allergy straight away and hopefully your cat can be treated in the same way.

If it's JUST under the chin, it's probably cat acne. If you feed from a bowl, the cat's chin rubs the bottom trying to get food, particles stick in the fur near the skin and that makes the stuff get infected as it blocks the pores. Changing to a plate solves that. It's hard for a cat to clean under it's chin.

Some cats are sensitive to plastic food bowls and the acne goes away if you switch to ceramic, glass or metal.

Sounds like it could be 'feline acne' , this can be treated quite easily -by a vet - Have you been back to your vet & explained that even though you have removed the collar this has returned?,
if not - go back,if so try another vet.

Yes he does have a flea allergy. Get some frontline, apply it to the skin on the neck. That should get rid of the fleas, but remember to keep it up four-weekly.

My cats get lumps and scabs if they have fleas. Vet says they are allergic to the flea bites. Advantage gets rid of the fleas for me, once the fleas are gone so are the scabs.

Does he eat and drink from a plastic bowl???
some cats are very sensitive to plastic, try a metal bowl or even better a ceramic one.
