My question is, do you see yourself as a person who can be accurately described as reasonable.

I'm not sure about that first question. Seems to me "reasonableness" is, or can be, quite subjective - a matter of opinion. After all, it IS conceivable that a person who is in the midsts of having delusions could believe themselves to be perfectly reasonable. For me, at least, that's actually kind of a vague question... but it got me thinkin' :P

As to that second question... Well, I guess I'm a reasonable person - I certainly try to be. Tho, by that I just mean that, basically, I just do my best to think things thru... to think before I act, because emotions are fine and wonderful, yes - but I don't believe one should allow themselves to be ruled by them (emotions).

Interesting questions, tho :)

>>"Calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a haircolor, or not >>collecting stamps a hobby." Bad analogy. Even as an atheist myself, I never liked this quote, and I wish other atheists would stop using it. Atheism does not mean "no religion". It means "no belief in deity". The reason why atheism is not a religion is the same reason why theism, monotheism, polytheism, deism and pantheism are not religions. These terms only describe where one stands on the issue of deity, period. You need a lot more than (ritual, dogma, explicit code of ethics, etc.) to define a "religion". Non-theistic religions do exist, as do many theists who don't have a religion. I like some of the others, but I've heard much better ones.

Reason is the formost important thing. Cogito Ergo Sum my brother. I think therefore I am. Living within the realm of reality alows for justifiable answers. I am an athiest and see thinking of gods as unreasonable because the reason used is man made. I think religion is a good thing just not for everyone. The Philosophies are good.

I'm very happy to reason with you any day of the week, with respect and understanding.

Does that put me into the theist or atheist camp? Can you tell, even?

I think I am reasonable about some things and not reasonable about others. For example, the cost of gas keeps going up--I don;t like it, but I am reasonbale about it. I keep buying it and don't cause a scene.
Now--lets say some kid at school bullies my child. I will not be reasonable about this. I will be like a mama bear.
I don't know of anyone who is reasonable about all things--except for Jesus!

How could 'one quality accurately describe someone as a person?'

I do consider myself 'reasonable' though, yes, for the most part.

The trouble is that people brought up with different beliefs will not agree on what reasonableness is.

To a scientist it is one thing; to a postmodernist another; to a Buddhist, yet another; and to a Christian, yet another.

I try, mostly by listening to the other point of view and being fair. Understanding another person doesn't mean I have to agree with them. (I learned that from Mr. Spock.)

Excellent! Without reason you become an outcast and are less approachable. If you want others to hear your opinion let your reasonableness be known.!!!!!

I don't fake it very often, so to the extent I'm reasonable (which is certainly not all the time), it shows through to whoever happens to be around.
