If you decorate for the Holiday Season, what is your favorite decoration? Does it hold a special meaning for you?
My favorite is my ceramic village. My mother made it, building by building, year after year, and as a child I helped her paint some of the little people. When she died, my sister and I split it, and when I put it up and move the people around, I feel very close to my mom. : )
Please share a story, if you wish! Blessings to you all.

Draagon, I am sorry you see my reminiscing about my dead mother as a "set of girlie statements." I hope you never suffer such a loss, nor suffer someone diminishing it with glib falsehoods. Enjoy your holidays.

In our family it is a large christmas ball with mistletoe that my father used to hang in the archway. every time he walked under it he would pull the string and it would play silent night(over and over and over again). every year we would teased him about that chipped up old ball and how one day it would stop working. that thing is over 50 years old, it is ratty looking but now that my father is gone it is the first decoration to go up and the one which gives us the most joy.
thank you i needed that. sitting here stressing about not having enough money for christmas shopping you reminded me what this holiday is about. because, in the long run it is not the memory of the material things you got that stay with you. it's the love.
blessing to you too.

The tradition that decorations go up on Christmas Eve appears to have been lost: (to come down on Jan 6th, giving the 12 full days of Christmas)
When I had a family Christmas as a child Christmas Eve *was* the tree and house decorating day.
Now I at least hold out to1st December, but decorating is restricted to a few items with memories and associations.
I have a large ceramic Christmas tree with an internal light that glows through lots of beads: that will shine In my window.
I painted that years ago.
I have some Christmas trains that I made to run at work, which always gave people pleasure,
I'll have to see if I can adapt one to my window this year, as I'm not at work.

Say real! i think of that that's rushing issues whilst they thoroughly omit 2 important holiday journeys, candy day and Turkey day, and commence with the Christmas stuff acceptable away. I also have a chum who starts off her Christmas procuring in July! communicate approximately rushing issues! Its a splash frightening the way some human beings make Christmas all approximately procuring and presents and decorations interior the mall as a replace of being with reference to the delivery of Jesus Christ!

Before I had children, I insisted that my Christmas tree be a big, formal, Victorian affair, complete with lace, roses, and handmade ornaments. How times have changed.
From the time my children were babies, when all they could contribute was a hand print in clay, I have decorated my tree with ornaments made by them, or that were gifts to them. I have done this for 22 years.
The ornaments that adorn my tree are some of my most precious possessions. There are clay hand prints, craft foam angels and reindeer, satin ball penguins, applesauce spice Santas...you name it, they made it. And I have treasured them all.
From the time my children were able to walk, I turned the tree trimming over to them. Through the years I have had some rather strange looking trees, with the lights, tinsel, and ornaments lumped into one space where the kids could reach. Every tree was beautiful.
I also turned the gift wrapping over to them at about the age of three, along with the general decorating. My most treasured possessions would be all the memories we have made with all the celebrating we have done.

I myself do not decorate but my husband does. He's putting up outside decorations at the moment and he'll put the tree up sometime during the week as he is on vacation. I have some family heirlooms but no holiday ones. My mother plans on passing those down the lines which have children.

After both of my parents deaths last year, there were no decorations to be found. They must have disposed of them in some odd way due to their dementia... so oddly enough... all I have is their adjustable Turkey roaster rack...lol... really. So, of course, it was used this year.
My only favorite decoration is the tree. I've created a new special meaning, as all the decorations are new. We now call it our solstice tree and I clipped the dorky wings off a beautiful ceramic figure. We call her Freyya, and she tops our tree in honor of the originators of winter tree decorating.

I like the decorations. My favorite was a gift from my best friend about 5 tears ago. It's a beautiful silver Santa and it sits atop my entertainment center.
My ex and I used to have a Xmas stick....We decorated it with Pepsi cans and flashcubes. No, there was nothing sacred in our house. Which was wonderful
Peace.

We put up our tree on Friday evening.. the best part of the season is watching my children and grandchildren put the decorations on the tree. As a single mom of five, I've had a lot of struggles, monetary being only one of them. But, one year when we were really poor, I purchased a tree top Santa for my daughter, who is now turning 19. I didn't have much in the way of presents, but I was able to get her that.. Santa still goes on top of the tree, and is a cherished item for her. Now that I am more able to take care of them financially, he reminds us of how much we have to be thankful for.. our family being the most cherished gift of all.
Happy Holidays to you and yours, Chickypooh!

I'm not big on decorations, but I do put up a tree. I just think the idea of having a pine tree in your living room is hilarious.

My favorite is a star made of our string , glitter, and glue that my daughter made when she was a Brownie.
It's the first thing I put on my tree every year. She's 23 years old now.
