Speaker wire CAN make a small change to the sound, but you need a fairly high-end, audiophile music system to notice it.
Home theater sound - is different and does not show a difference.
Buy a spool of good oxygen -free 12 ga speaker wire from PartsExpress.
When shopping, never spend more than 10% of the equipment price for the wires. Otherwise you are likely over spending.

If you want the best cables for the best price try Monoprice.com.
Retail stores will charge you 2 to 3 times what they pay for the cable. There are also pleanty of specialty stores that charge up to 5 times as much.
You want 16 guage as a minimum and possably 12 if you have some long runs. Oxegen free is always nice and if you are going in wall you should buy in wall rated wire.
I ran 12guage all around just because the price was right.
I worked at a big box store and I buy all my cables from monoprice now. For both myself and jobs I do on the side.

Any decent shop selling home cinema and hi-fi equipment will sell speaker cable, as it's known.
Look for companies like QED, Van den Hul, Ecosse, Ixos, Chord, etc. They all make high quality speaker cables and interconnects.
