What is the point of disagreeing between shia and sunnis???......ok it is natural to disagree, but some people ( may God forgive them), have taken the hatred to a level of cursing and uncivilized rants- which is wrong in ALL PERCEPTIONS OF ISLAM...(cursing and swearing is haram, like it or not)

Its a really shameful thing and its something that has lead to the ravaging of dreams of the unity of the muslim brothers and sisters all over the world....
Shias and sunnis are brothers and sisters of the same faith. A few disagreements does not make either sect "non-muslim". And moreover only God has the right to judge who is muslim and who is not...

What we can do for now is to treat the other as muslims should treat other human beings. We all claim to be muslims and we all firmly believe in God being the judge of our actions. Why dont we work for a common cause then?

Ask and answer others politely, never curse and be nice to everyone(the Islamic way)
May God(Allah) guide and forgive us all

@Muhammad,
May almighty God bless you

@ahlan,
God willing, you shall be happy in your life - my mother is a shia and my dad is a sunni, but they never had problems for this futile conflict.....I simply never heard my parents arguing about religion.....they get on pretty well...

this conflict had affected my mentality a lot in my earlier years...and caused a lot of trouble in my life.....to the point when i almost got tired of religion...then I looked into it and discovered.....its a foolish thing to fight among ourselves....Its not Islamic at all to engage in this conflict.....

Cursing/hating/fighting others is not a solution.....not in Islam

Its time we all solve this....Knowledge is power.....CO-OPERATE FOR ISLAM!!!

May almighty God guide us all

Shia-ism is not an innovation to Islam as sunnis claim it to be.....That depends on what you believe...As sunnis beleive they are the direct and devout followers of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), so do the Shias.....the difference is the Shias take the Ahl-ul-Bayt as first to be trusted.....
now, relating to misconceptions of the shia by the sunnis,
NOT ALL SHIAS Curse the Companions of the prophet..Most shias dont, thy just have a negative view of them....And CERTAINLY I DONT! the Prophet (pbuh), as I said before, knows better than us to pick his companions, if he was truly infallible....What started the entire conflict was a misunderstanding of his sayings concerning leadership after his death during his Noble mission to spread the message of Islam....
Neither sunnis nor shias are divergent from this truth....A few misdeeds dont make either member non-adherent of the Islamic faith.....contd....

and contrary to Sunni misconceptions the self-flagellation is Haram in Shia Islam. Why do some people do it??? BECAUSE THEY ARE FANATICS...It was all meant to mourn the deaths of the Imam and his followers at Karbala, and it can go as far as mourning, and not any more - What Noor mentions in her answer about shia Islam's "fallacies" is prohibited in Islam and strongly discouraged...I as a Shia myself (along with millions of other shias) believe they are forbidden rituals (arbain) and is an act equivalent to extremist "terrorism" carried by some who call themselves sunni (twisting religious views by fanaticism)...

There is right and wrong in every person's belief...nobody is completely right nor completely wrong about following beliefs.....disagreements about beliefs will ensue between every human being on earth but we are working on HOW SIMILAR WE ARE, rather than how different.....AND WE ARE SIMILAR ENOUGH TO BE MEMBERS OF THE SAME RARIONAL FAITH WE KNOW AS LOVE AS ISLAM.....

@Croweye, You sounded respectful at the start of your answer, but I must hasten to say that your disrespect for other views seem very non-Islamic and the way you intend God to curse Shias and all those who dont agree with you seems like hypocrisy...If you are a good muslim you wouldnt wish harm on others who have not done anything wrong to you, not in this world
Dont Curse anyone

@Noor, you are more rational than croweye, but it does not mean that you are completely aware of true Shia beliefs...The majority of what you mention about Shia ism is custom not our beliefs...Its just as simple as how Americans and the west in general misconceive Muslims as terrorists - stereotyping is always wrong...and you are doing exactly that

@Kimo, highest amount of logic, but i mentioned about the need to focus on the overwhelming similarities between us....THE DIFFERENCES ARE SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH TO CALL ANYONE A NONMUSLIM, and accusing someone of misguidance is personal belief, nothing to do there

I was thinking that too. This section seemed pretty tranquil not too long ago...it feels like we lost the peace.
I almost feel depressed having to read some things people have said. I thought it was only the Saudi Arabian governemnt giving us a bad name. The war goes on between us too aparently. I look at the way these people behave and it just makes me think "no wonder people hate muslims." You dont see catholics and protestants fighting over whose right and whose wrong.

edit: Wow.. Kimo, noor, croweye.. you look really REALLY good right now.

I don't call myself Sunni or Shia, I'm Muslim, I believe in one God, I believe that Mohammad PBUH was the last Prophet, and I believe in the Prophet's sayings (Hadith).
and I don't like it when we divide Islam into sects.

That is so true - muslims are muslims and to highlight or argue over small differences further divides our Muslim brothers and sisters and due to the increasing hostility towards Muslims, we should unite in the name of Islam.

Thank You!!
So we diagree so wat! Over a few points, but lets stick together the same way all the other religions stick together. Muslims are always trying to find anything to argue about. Shittes and sunnies at the end they are BOTH muslims.
We are never going to have peace or anything, until the muslims are one and start acting as one group!

Peace

I really try not to say anything against shias...because my knowledge is very limited when it comes to shias. and you are right we shouldn't belittle anyone or disrespect each other.
Except when you know someone is doing harm to islam and the sunnah of rasullullaah(saw) that is when you have to stand firm and stand up for the sunnah.
and Allaah knows best

Muhammad: jazakallahu khayran for the reminder.

Listen, sunnis and shias are not brothers and sisters unless these are non-practicing shias or they converted back to sunni Islam which is the base.

If you read the Quraan and you desire to be a muslim and you take the Shahada, you are a sunni..

you know what i mean? it means you are a sunni as a base, you have to convert out - AstagfiruAllah - to accept shiism which is a deviant sect (see bleedingm hitting the chests, cutting veins on heads, whipping, kissing and groping young boys etc and the list goes on.. not to forget that shias think that the Quran is not real and it was altered - AstagfiruAllah - and they cursed the Shahabaas - AstagfiruAllah!!
So this is why we are not sisters and brothers..

i don't know but the non-muslims are taking good advantage of it and we're too busy fighting each other instead of standing together as one. WAKE UP MUSLIMS !! do you see the israelis fighting each other ?? that's why we're losing and they're winning. Shi'a and Sunnis differ in how they interpret history, let's not get stuck in history and instead work together for the future. It's sad, really sad, how many people ruined this beautiful question by doing the very same thing that you're advising them against.

I agree with you that we should call to God in a civilized manner BUT Man, whether you like it or not, shi'a are an off shot of Islam .. they are a deviant astray cult. unless you return back to the true Islam with which the prophet (sas) was sent.. there is no agreement between you and us .. for how can truth agree with falsehood? how can guidance agree with straying?

It's our responsibility to expose shi'a and show Muslims how wrong and far from Islam they are .. if we don't we will be held responsible before Allah.

I don't have anything against Iranians as a nation .. my mother is Iranian and i visited Iran twice .. Iranians are very ignorant about religion just like most shi'a .. they need to be shown the right path .. they need us to remove the veil covering their eyes so that they can see the truth.
