I got lots of helpful info. people seem to think that a semi auto will jam up. I had that problem with a sterling .22 pistal. don't want that to happen in a bad situation. So lets say I get the pump 410 shot gun. any preference on brand name. I do plan on using it several times. since my freinds like to go shoot clay pidgeons. so I will also be using it for that purpose.
thanks chris ps please tell me what to expect to pay. and what is a good deal etc. as far as price goes.

A run-of-the-mill .410 pump should cost around $200-250 brand new, or $150-175 used. I'm no shotgun expert, but have been very happy with my Mossberg 12 gauge. It's a popular brand, as is Remington. You can search on gunbroker.com to get a better idea on prices.

FYI, the reason a .410 is not good for clay targets is because the shot pattern is so small. Unless you're an expert or you don't care if you miss most of the time, go ahead with it.
I would recommend at least a 20 gauge. Recoil isn't that bad if that's what you're worried about.

You don't shoot trap or skeet with a .410... you use a 12 Gauge with 7 1/2 loads for that.

No, do not get a gun from wally world. They are of a lot cheaper quality with some parts of the gun being plastic. Mavericks suck. Get a mossberg. Ps: I know mossberg makes mavericks.
