I have a full-time job and recently took on another one for just Sundays (retail). I'm supposed to go today. I worked there before and it is full of drama and stress. I was thinking the extra $ would be good since I'm fresh from a break up and out on my own. I'm not sure the amount of $ I'll get will be worth the drive, drama and lack of days off. I don't know if this is just laziness or if I should follow my gut and not do this. Any thoughts?

Thanks already for the great answers.
I would definitely call and probably go today either way because as someone said, they are counting on me.

Yikes! I didn't think about tax brackets...just the fact that tax will be taken out which is really not good...It will only be 8/hour

Also, at my current FT job I average 9-10 hours a day and sometimes Saturdays.

You know your situation better than we do. But sounds to me like you are making excuses for no taking the job. Any way, you should go today because they are counting on you and give notice. I am sorry about your break up. I hope it was for the best and your next relationship will be the one that will make you happy for ever. Good luck.

Even if the extra money did take you to a higher tax bracket, it wouldn't affect the way your other income is taxed. The way higher brackets work is that only the money that's over the limit is taxed at the higher rate, your other income is still taxed just like it would otherwise have been. Many people, obviously including the responder who brought that up, don't understand this.
You have to decide whether the extra money is worth giving up the time and energy. If you have enough money, and are just doing it because you're at loose ends, you might be better off finding something else to do with your weekends, something you'll enjoy. If you are short of money, it's probably worth it. And if you have credit card debt and aren't paying the total balance each month, you could put the extra toward that and save yourself a lot in interest.

If you need the money and believe you can manage it, take the job. All jobs have drama, the key is just going to work and doing the work. It sounds easy but many get drawn into all the drama. I have worked a full time and part time job for about 15 years. One of the reasons I do it, is I always have extra money, it is also nice if you would lose one job to have one to fall back on.

If this job will pay you cash. It would be worth it.But otherwise one day will probably just kick you into a higher tax bracket and end up costing you in the long run.Last year my wife wanted to work so I said OK go for it. She hired out at 10 something an hour. When tax time came it screwed everything up.
Think about the big picture on this.

At first I was gonna tell you to go for it- then I read your details. If the negative side outweighs the piddly amount of money and the stress that comes with it, it is definately NOT worth it.
I used to think my mom's life was boring but now I know it is the kind of life most people want- drama and stress-free. Sometimes I have ALL four lines on the phone ringing at once and no one ever helps by picking up the phone at work and saying, "HI, thanks for calling _____. May I help you?" Like it is too much of an effort, but this raises MY stress level dealing with everything. It is definately NOT worth it.
Stress raises your heart level, makes you irritable and rude to customers, gives you a headache and makes you hate your life... AND makes you look old early.
Is it worth the money and gas now with risen prices?
NO!

Unless you really need the money or if it's a short term thing because you are saving up for something I guess I would to it. If that is not the case and you took the job just to stay busy and keep your mind of things I would find a hobby maybe go work out join a club... something you will enjoy doing in your free time

I would do it if I needed the extra money we all put up with different things meaing drama at work. You just have to deal with it and think about things in long run like how you could benefit from having the extra money good luck.

Don't do it, it'll be too much stress. If u want 2 forget your break-up buy a big bar of Galaxy chocolate and watch a bunch of your favourite movies on the couch (or bed) with a nice warm blanket.

with possibly more pay.

Go by your gut. But you really should call them, at least, and tell them that you decided not to take the job.
