Proposal can be sent directly or through a messenger. In my Muslim country, such message is sent by the father of boy to the father of the girl, as the cultural norm.Family is involved in marriage proposals.

Usually male's family members go the girl's parents with some gifts for family and propose their wish to marry their son or brother with their daughter. They let them know in advance for their visit to the family. First of all both families already know each other very well. Marriage proposal from strangers is considered odd and is seldom accepted without a thorough investigation about the male and his family members.
If girls'family membes were expecting the proposal they may say yes and offer them some sweet to the guest. If proposal is from unexpected family distantly known, they will always reply, "we thank you for the honor of your proposal. We shall think about it and let you know". Of girl has no objection, Girls' family doesn't want to show that they are desparte to give their daughter to boy's family so they will not say any thing for a while. Then boy's family will go again and ask for their decision, then if interested they will say we are talking our elders about your porposal and considering about it and we need more time. This is to encourage them so they don't start looking for another girl if they are good family. on their third visit girl's family will give their acceptance or denial in a respctable manner like we had some other proposals also and we have found a better proposal for our daughter in our view. If asked who the other family is, they will say the other family is not yet ready to disclose the realtionship until they have node from all their elders. This is customary method amongs Muslim families. It varies from culture to culture. On acceptance of proposal, then a date for engagement ceremony will be set. Boys family will come well dressed with some close friends and relatives with plenty of gifts for girl and other family members. There will some jewellery and decent clothes for bride will also be given for girl. Girl's family will have many of their guests. They will have a feast after some formal talks and offering sweets to each other. They will decide after how long the marriage will take place. Normally the engagement is sort of reservation of a girl for the boy. They may still have couple of years or longer to finish education of girl or the boy before marriage can take place.

If you are asking for some real proposal that is in mind, you can feel free to talk to me more with information about both families. If I know their customs I will tell you and will find out from friends in that particular community.

Good luck.

The best way would be to get in touch with her family e.g:- father, mother, bro etc. ask them for her hand in marriage.

You speak to her wali, her father, or the Imam. Tell him of your intention and get permission.
