It would totally depend on what choke your shotgun barrel (Needs to be Improved Bore od Improved Cylinder Choke to shoot Rifled Slugs) is, or what screw in chokes if any you may have (If this is the case), and what model Savage shotgun it is......Without this information any answers would be pure guesswork at best........

My first question is, what choke does it have? Is it an older Savage with the full choke barrel ? If so, many deer have been taken with those guns.

Next: does it have removable chokes? If so, no

Heres why: the slug is a solid mass of lead. Removable chokes are intended to tighten or widen the opening in the end of the barrel. If that slug doesnt fit past the choke that is in there, the gun barrel becomes a pipe bomb in the sense that all that energy is trapped in the barrel and has to escape somewhere, somehow. The results are NOT pretty, and I assure you, can very well be deadly.

That being said, there ARE slug barrels available for most every gun, if your gun has removable chokes. The slug barrels are rifled specifically for slugs and are as accurate as most any gun. Its another cost but for the accuracy acheived, its probably worth it.

Many thousands of thousands of deer have been taken with slugs over the years and they are a very productive gun to hunt with. Up to 100 yards they can be equally as productive as any gun, or more, considering the mass of the 12 ga. slug carries a lethal punch.

Manufacturers recommend you shoot slugs from cylinder or improved cylinder ONLY.****

hi there
if it is full or modified choke, it will shoot slugs, just make sure you use the proper length shells.
