There is no heaven in Greco-Roman mythology.

The souls of the dead went to Hades, the Land of the Dead. The Fields of Elysian, a part of the Hades, is where the souls of the heroic or virtuous went, while the demigods of the Greek Myths went to the Elsyian Islands. It was paradise, but not so much in our sense of the word. It isn't exactly synonymous with "heaven". They were still in the underworld, it just didn't suck as bad as it did for the souls in Tartaros.

Anyone who was not a hero or a virtuous soul went to Tartaros, which is where most people ended up for some reason or another. They weren't all given torturous tasks to make up for their bad deeds in life. Most souls just wandered around with no place to go.

It's just mythology, like all mythology in all religion. The reason it's so morbid is because, well, life was very hard for the average person in Ancient times. There was no hope in life, they figured there wasn't any hope in the afterlife, either. But they did think that there should be a reward for living a virtuous life, in a time when anyone could get away with committing just about any crime known to man.

Do not just believe what you have heard from other persons. Believe on what you have known to be the truth
