at this time of the year you will get chilled anywhere in the state, not just at the beach.

Most of the beach resorts are east end Long Island from Westhampton Beach to Montauk Point. Sag Harbor's a nice area. You can access the beaches by train.. Sayville and Patchogue are about a mile to the ferry terminals to Fire Island. Try to do it right before Memorial Day and after Labor Day and during the week. Traffic is a nightmare in the summers, but a lot of good wineries on the north fork that make for a decent day trip. Check out Craigslist or Newsday for short term rentals.
Davis Park and Sailors Haven were my summer hangouts, and bring some anti-tick stuff. More family oriented but had its share of revellers.
Block Island and Marthas Vineyard are even further but also popular for beach resorts.
Amangansett is pretty cool and laid back, Stephen Talkhouse (live music venue) you may see a local celeb hanging, and most of the Hamptons traffic stops at Southampton so it's a lot easier to get around.
Some people rent out their boats to chill out. It's usually on the bay side, but in some cases are really close to the beach.

There are no true "Beach Resorts" in NYC or Long Island. You will need to travel to the Jersey Shore for this. The Ocean Place Resort is one that's in Long Branch. You can also try Wildwood, but that's like a place that time forgot and stuck in the 50's. Another option is Atlantic City.

Simply a beach go to Jones Beach on Long Island. Take the LIRR to Wantagh then the bus to Jones Beach. This, of course, only during the summer. If you want a resort type beach, go to Montauk. There is a sandy beach in the village and plenty of hotels to choose from.

I hope that you are having your honeymoon in the summer. There are nice resort like areas out at the Hamptons. If you want to travel a little bit, the Jersey shore is always nice.

Theres a nice hotel in Asbury Park, NJ, and if you're lucky you'll catch a good show at the Stone Poney or the Paramount. The hotel is called the Berkeley-Carteret Ocean Front Hotel. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=LZJ&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=berkely&near=Asbury+Park,+NJ&fb=1&view=text&latlng=40224411,-73998936,14613592721642018670#
