I always curious about charity organizations, that if the donations get to the hands of those really needed, or they pocket most of the money ? So many charity organizations out there, and I am sure some of them are fair that only top of for expenses, which I like some information about the fair one, if someone know please share it with me...?

Any legitimate, registered charity will be happy to provide you with information on their income and expenditures, in the form of an annual report.

However, what do you mean by "overhead"? A nonprofit organization has to pay for rent, utilities and insurance just like any other organization. These bills have to be paid -- otherwise, the nonprofit/charity goes away and its services disappear. Also, such organizations have to pay for expertise -- if they work with children, they might need child psychologists. If they work to bring clean water to communities, they might need to hire sanitation specialists. They may need to hire doctors. They need someone with management training and experience to run the organization efficiently. They need accounting services. And on and on. Volunteers are nice, but *cannot* fill all of the roles needed by a nonprofit organization -- such organizations need paid staff as well, to *ensure* that their clients are served, that services are delivered, that volunteers have well-planned, well-thought-out assignments that both give the volunteers an outlet for their service and give the organization appropriate support, etc.

I heard someone complain that a nonprofit had just bought a copy machine. But why, when that copy machine allowed them to serve probably 20 times as many people in the community?

So, be careful when you complain about "overhead" -- those costs are not bad things, and *someone* has to pay them.

American REd CRoss only spends 9% for salaries and overhead. The majority of workers are volunteers and are valuable assets as they cost nothing.

The Red Cross and The salvation Army are the only charities worth giving money to. I would never give to Oxfam because the majority of the money you give goes on so called 'expenses'.
