No.

It`s not dependent upon circumstances - I don`t pray no matter what the situation, because prayer doesn`t work. There is no god.

I'm an "agnostic," so I might pray for someone...but have very little sense that my "praying" will actually DO anything...other than give me a sense that...

At least I've covered all the bases...

Atheists DO NOT pray or ask someone to pray for them...because they know that "praying" is simply wishful thinking, and has no "medically positive" value...

I, on the other hand, believe that even if there is no "God," praying DOES at least serve as a mental "mechanism" to channel positive thoughts in some direction, hopefully in the direction of the loved one who is sick or dying or both...

No, not really, anyone who wanted to do it could, but an attempt to lead prayer, would look like an opportunist attempt to spread the faith. I live in the UK, Tony Blair had to keep his faith under wraps or be thought a "nutter". If we had known he was "guided by God" he would never have been elected.

There is a basic distrust of religion here, as being motivated by selfish motives and being a cause of manipulation and strife. We have just settled Northern Ireland, that was kept alive by donations from the US (thanks for the murders), although the efforts of Bill Clinton and TB have delivered peace (so thanks for that).

Basically we don't want divisive secretarian religious politics over here, and that goes for Christians, Muslims, JW, FSM, and any other ars**oles who think they have the answer and we should listen.

who would I be praying to or asking someone to pray to? Your god doesn't exist.

My brothers girlfriend was in hospital last week because of a brain tumour. When we went to see her she had another friend in with her who was annointing her with holy oil and then proceeded to read a prayer. I stared at the wall so no one could see my eyes rolling.

After she'd gone I proceed to point out all the positives that she had going for her (ie young, healthy, got 3 kids to live for, great doctors who had been confident).

She's made it through and i have no doubt it's because of what she had going for her in the first place. if you have a brain tumour faith isn't going to help.

My nephew was raised in a semi-christian home. His grandma and I , help raise him for years, Because his mom liked to take off get high and leave him with us.She even moved out of state and left him with us!

Well as a teen he got back with is mom and at first he still had faith and prayed. Then he got rebellious and had friends that were and he had a very nasty step dad. Who did a lot of verbal abuse. He got into witch craft and then began to say he didn't believe there was a God.

But now he is in his mid. 30's he still act's like he doesn't believe, but when his kids are sick or he need a job or any other thing he really is a fraid of or wants to happen he comes and asks us for prayer! Sometimes he won't word it as please pray. But you clearly know when he is asking. Funny thing is when I ask him for prayer...he acts funny.... like maybe he is a shame to pray? He tells me he will think "Good thoughts" my way. What the heck good will that do? ROFL

They have done double blind test on the power of prayer and have found it to work when the people they are praying for had no clue they were being prayed for! It was doen at a hospital. They choose groups of people to study and pray for. Look it up online if you doubt this, about science.

No, because there used to be a televangelist named Oral Roberts who opened up a Hospital that used both modern medicine and prayer in their treatments. The Hospital eventually closed because there was no additional benefits from the addition of prayer..

No. Mumbling to invisible sky deities won't hinder the progression of illness.

Most atheists would just take them to a hospital.

No atheists don't pray. They don't believe in god, so they will never pray. Besides, praying doesnt cure sickness, no matter what your faith. Only medicine and time.

We let the doctors do their job, whether they fail or succeed cannot be predicted.

Do theists pray for the thousands being killed every year in the name of God ?
