Traditional English cooking is particularly boring and univentive. Beef Wellington is hard to recommend to anyone who is serious about their food!
The irony is that there is a lot of very good food to cook with in the UK, but it's never been used well. Modern English cooking is much better now but I still prefer French cooking any time. The French have cuisine; the English just have cooking. That's why England is full of Indian take away restaurants!

I think that today the English can cook better that years ago. Mainly because we have joined the European community and are influenced by Europe. English cooking is not too bad now so I would consider that a myth.
I am an American and we are good cooks over there too.

Yes...not many people cook in England any more..its all pre-cooked foods...chips burgers...anything that is quick and easy.
English cooking is no where near as good as French, Italian and Spanish cuisine.
I am english but have lived in France and Spain...so i know the difference

To be honest, it's not our cooking that is the problem. There are some fine English chefs around.
The problem is our life-style. We simply don't have the time to *enjoy* the meal as much as other cultures do. This is why there are so many take-aways and why our culinary skills are *as an average* lower.
If we had the time to enjoy the preparation / cooking / eating as much as others did we would show ourselves to be excellent cooks.

Of course it it not! Your thinking must come from the fact that the French tend to live off the land more as a nation and their hearts are therefore more into their food with the resulting passion. And everything sounds so much more sexy on the menu when it is in French ... doesn't it?

The British generally speaking are not really interested in food. Pity, because there is so much good stuff available here. I've lived in France and Greece and I love cooking and I can find ANYTHING I want here, no problem, but so few people care.

English cooking is great!!!!!
You can get anything from kebabs to curries, pot noodles to Chinese stir fried rice, thai and even French, Italian and German cuisine.
Then there are traditional English toads in the hole, jellied eels, spotted dicks and faggots to contend with.
The joys of a cosmopolitan society at the cutting edge of globalisation eh?

The worst thing about food in this country is that the ingredients are usually stale and hardly ever fresh. Cooking would depend on the individual.

Yes, it's the very reason the English had to colonize so many other nations like India -- to get better food!
