mechanical and electrical labour rates for what?

Im assuming you mean some sort of engineering employment - engineers, technicians and fabricators?

Now would the rate be what we would be expecting to pay an engineering company for an hour of their employees time, or what the employee would actually take home.

So could you ask again with a few more details?

Oh, here is an answer - £700 for 2 men for half a day including materials in the electrical trade

It all depends ..
the independents typically charge in the range £30 to £40 per hour.

A BMW Main Dealer is likely to charge in the range £80 to £120 per hour with minimum 3 hours ...

MOST Engineering companies will quote you for the job in advance and charge for the 'task' to be completed (irrespective of how long it takes them .. after all, have you never heard the phrase "work expands to fill the time available" ??? )
