It is possible to be so deceived as to think one is doing God's will when murdering a fellow human being. They were murdering the innocent, Holy, Son of God sent by Him to help them back into relationship with God. They were spiritually blind to what they were doing. Jesus' statement is one of the most mind-boggling prayers ever prayed. Jesus proved that forgiveness truly is Divine.

The Sanhedrin(Jewish ruling authorities) decided the death of Jesus was a political necessity to prevent the Romans from tightening up their grip and messing with how the Pharisees were running things.

I don't know about you, but I've had times in my life when I was messing up royally and couldn't see it until later. I have had some chronic pain problems. At one point in time, as a believer, I got myself addicted to pain pills. I definitely knew that abuse of a prescription was wrong and yet I willfully deceived myself into addiction because I didn't trust God to help me deal with the pain in my life. This happened 15 years into my relationship with God, after years of Bible Study and experience in my faith.

Almost any problem of sin involves spiritual blindness to the truth of God, a wilful rejection of truth/God's commands.

Because they do not know that God exists, that god has created every human being equally.. He wants God to forgive them for not believing in him
